Gravatar thanks for the separate 888 post. it's high time it got some mention.

yes, there was a time when we were not boring....

Gravatar i would not know. i was alone and never had groups or support of others like me. like with everything i do i am ahead of the game by decades. so i am always out of the game.

Gravatar Reb Tzemach,

I can only tell you that I am humbled to see my drivel posted on your site.

Gravatar this doctor girl was she shafer?

Gravatar i never herd of this group. could you tell what were you actually doing? I mean if there was a name it means that it had an agenda?

Gravatar why 888? not 666?

Gravatar beause it was held in an aprtment at 888 montgomery st

Gravatar read "Mystics, Mavericks, and Merrymakers" by Stephanie Levine. I think she's teaching somewhere near Boston.

there were an erech 10 guys and 7-8 girls as the base. what was different from the other hangout apt.s in CH was that these weren't stam dropouts but young adults with a passion for body, mind, heart and soul. like the tuaregs of the sahara, the apt. was in the domain of the women, & the guys were invited over into the sanctum sanctorum.

it was a feste force, with plenty of exploration, indulgence, erudition, creativity, yearning to breath free in 11213 in the post-3-Tamuz morass.

there were public asifos in oholey torah & other places in the shchuneh denouncing "888."

it was the larva to pupa stage for us.

after a year (fall 1996), the bulk grew wings & flew off to manhattan & queens.

Gravatar Tzemach, kovi has some interesting points. I think he is right about the futility of the monastic education and lifestyle represented by yeshiva & kollel.

Gravatar If bocherim were encouraged to work at their learning in a mesudardikkeh fashion perhaps there would be no need to abandon it as it would be precious and concrete (as opposed to prestigious and ephemeral) in their eyes and provide them with the skills to face life.
