Though RMG has something of a reputation for being difficult to understand, this one baffles me. Tzemach, can you please clarify?
"huz me moshiach", means "chutz miMoshiach?" As in "except for Moshiach"?!
"Rebbe said we will daven Maariv with Moshiach, it was Shabbos." What Shabbos is he talking about?
And what was TNLR's response supposed to mean?
Thanks in advance!

Thankz for this beatiful post! We have very fond memories of Reb Moish (Maishkeh). He explained how the whole Olom hazeh - gantz Commonwealth Avenue - is "a cock foon shmuray aifaanim!"
May he live and be well!!!

The "shmarei oifanim" is originally from R'Yankel Gurkov o.h.I heard him say this while we passed Buckingham Palace. Thanks to the Shemtov - Sudak families none of R' Yankel's children or descendants could establish themselves in London.

ONE SHABBOS
And what was TNLR's response supposed to mean?
THAT ANOTHER THING THAT STILL DID NOT HAPPEN IS THE CORRECTION OF THE LAW.

what's the writing behind Hirshel in picture 4 on the wall? There seems to be G-d's name there too.

i was in Gurkov's shul maybe only two or three times. i remember vividly how he used to offer vodka just like a good baleboste would forcefully feed her guests. he would open a refrigerator and invite to partake. "mashke all over, all over." warm and peaceful memory.

A fitting anecdote with R' Maishkeh, from a talmid of his:
When R' M. was an eltere bochur in 770 (an oived with the works), Chodakov wanted him to get moving in life. He arrranged him a yechidus, which R' M.'d thought came from the Boss.
The Rebbe told him quite clearly (as Rashi says, "Rochel Bitcha HaKtana"): Go to so-and-so... etc. I.e., set up the shidduch.
Obviously realizing, R' M. walked out cursing Chodakov: "If it wasn't for a him, I'd always remain a bochur..!"

I have a cassette tape somewhere I recorded of RM farbrenging in Boston Yeshiva almost 20 years ago.
Wow time flies.
If I ever dig it up, maybe you'd like a copy Tzemach.
Its not very clear, he wasn't that easy to understand back then either.
