congrat tzemach! hundreds of nice stories about r' groner but you managed to unearth and print the sh..
if you can tell a believable nice story I will print it too. But it has to be about a human being not a cult figure.
tzemach, i don't know you but i enjoy reading your blog. you are an interesting talented writer with a wide spectrum of knowledge. but to be honest sometimes when you over indulge in character bashing you cheapen yourself and come across as a small person and lose the respect which you deserve.
i am a small person psychically, intellectually and spiritually.
the havdalah story is such:
once (in the early '80?), moreynu harav yitzchok dovid groner was at his home (next to yeshivah college) after ma'ariv, with a bunch of community members who would regularly show up to hear havdalah from the mara de'asra.
the havdalah candle is burning. yitchok dovid picks up his full becher in his palm, but instead of starting havdoleh, he stares straight ahead to where his wife was standing.
2 minutes go by, 5 minutes pass, 10 minutes, more. finally, after about 15 minutes like this of staring at her, he finally blurts out loud for all to hear:
"devorah leah, you're growing a mustache...hiney e-l yeshuasi..."
BTW, you would not want to be in the groner's kitchen erev shabos, to hear yitzchok dovid chastise his wife for not cooking properly, not doing this or that right, etc....
he came across as a somewhat impulsive person, who many atime could not control himself from saying the worst shit about others, especially those closest to him.
A lion has left us, and the mice who tried to gnaw at him when he was alive are now gnawing at his corpse.
Disgusting!
human beings are not mice or lions, they are human and it is you who want to degrade the humanity by lionizing it. You do a greatest disservice to the human spirits. Down with animals, long live the man in all its contradiction!
oh, & 2 more yitzchok dovid gems for the shabos table:
1) crown heights, late '80s. YD is in the karestirer mikveh, pulling up his baggy gatges. in walks noach smichah fox, who was a bochur & just published his small sefer "Simchas Melech" chidushim on the rambam. YD, who is standing near the entrance, sees NS, and calls out, "Simchah." NS turns to him. YD pulls down his gatges, stick hif fat behind out to SN and says, "You can take your new sefer and stick it up my ass."
2) around that time, YD had a fallout with shloymoh cunin of cali (this was around the time motel feiglin was living in LA i think). they were not on speaking terms to say the least. so there they are in 770 (this may have been during one of the kinus hashluchim). shlomo is walking from mizrach to mairiv, YD from mairiv to mizrach. they notice each other, but it is beneath each to recognize the other. so they continue walking towards each other, then past each other, all the while ignoring each other. when shloymoh passes behind YD like 6-10 feet, YD turns around and calls out, "Shloymeh." to which shloymoh turns around with a gleeful smile, as if he just won a staring match, that YD gave in first, and nods. to which YD bellows out (in 770):
"FUCK YOU!"
Zoro, this would a scoop provided that you yourself is careful in what you say. Yet the worst nivul pe comes out of your holy mouth. So what's your point?
no point. just telling stories about "the man in all its contradiction!"
