משקפת הזהב שלו כידוע שכ"ק אדמו"ר מהר"ש נהג בעשירות ובהרחבה you think this is gold? to my uneducated eye it does not look like it. anyways, i love the acquired russian style of Lazar & Co, passing a worthless item for an expensive and historically significant artifact.

faruq, on eBay they describe it as "gilt bronze opera glasses". It probably is bronze.
My question is why do they put this junk on display next to the alleged Alter Rebbe's yarmulka?

check out this comment on COL:
לראות את חרדת הקודש אצל הרב קרינסקי והרב לוין שלבשו גארטל לכבוד המאורע. אכן כך נאה כך יאה לנהוג בחפצי הקודש ומתאים ליהודים כאלו לנהל את הספרי הקדושה.

wonderful.
it is quite possible that the only thing that these guys were actually told was that the glasses belonged to the daughter of the Rebbe, that's it.
a post like this one should be nominated for the funniest post. btw, מרת חיה פ, why do they abbreviate the name?

I am not as insightful a PR analyst as my friends here. I do know that there are stories of the Rebbe Rashab going to see a performance. Or at least one story.

Tzemach -
That's right, "alleged" Alter Rebbe's yarmulke.
SY Chazan once proved in BM (two years ago approx.), that it is indeed the Maharash's, and not the Alter Rebbe's. [I can't find the link as of now].
See here (scroll down), where his ex-colleague, the Librarian, has accordingly "updated" it as being the Maharash's (there's a ksav yad next to it for support as such):

הכל תלוי איך נגדיר את ההשתייכות של החפצים לרבותינו נשיאנו
אם זה גדר של "חפצא" או "גברא" - ז"א האם חשוב שא' מרבותינו השתמש בחפץ זה בפעול ממש או מספיק שהחפץ דומה לכזה או רק מזכיר לנו א' מרבותינו מכיון שאנו משייכים אותו לא' מהם ?
ענין הזהב - צ"ע כי בפשטות אינו זהב כלל

man, you people are paranoid!
The point is they say it belonged to MaHaRaSH, based on the testimony of his granddaughter. Who cares if it's ladies' binoculars, or if they have a billion of them on EBay. The same can be said about any object belonging to any famous perosn.
Tzemach, I believe I detect some obsession here. Besides, Berkowitz is not Hungarian, so he deserves to be left alone.

I know a fellow, a Bobover (and a very sincere guy), who has a pair of tzitzis that once belonged to R' Shloime Bobover - they are creased and wrinkled and a shade of golden-brown, and he wears them every year on Yomim Noraim. His family makes fun of him for this, as do others, but he doesn’t care; through this, he says, he is able to feel a connection that has tangible benefits.
Someone once asked him how he knows for sure if R' Shmloime ever even wore them - maybe they were just a pair of old tzitzis that ended up in R' Shloimeh's possession - to which he responded:
I don't. But I know he had shaychus to them, and I know I feel different when I wear them.

CE, nothing wrong if it was written Maharash held it once or gave it to his daughter. But the article stated it was his (nonsensical) and made up some BS about water resorts.

CE, Come on!
Questionable tashmishei kedushoh from one's Rebbe used in privacy are not quite the same as a very questionable item from a questionable source paraded for all to see by unquestionably ignorant people (in case of Berel Levine - in this particular matter). Epses nit klor? :)

I'm not sure where the jab at BL came from, Berl, CH, but I don't see these little details as making it any worse. So what if they paraded it; we live in an age where anything is news, especially if there are pages of websites to be filled.

Tzig, if Berel Levine wasn't standing there among these morons with this item, I would not care at all; but I respect the guy and was embarrassed for him. I thought that was pretty clear.

Yes, yes, I understand, but we realize that the effort is valid, and each individual will take it from whence it comes.
But Berl - seriously - R' B"L is "unquestionably ignorant?"
I dunno...
