no mesirus nefesh left in the shluchim? if you're talking about gashmius mesirus nefesh, we have no organized education for our kids, no mikveh nearby, we bought three packs of meat for pesach for the first time in a year and have not bought any more since pesach because we can't afford to buy meat, we are on shlichus, we are successful beruchnius but the gashmius is hard until you build a solid donor base. and there are many I know in similar positions. cunin's reality does not reflect that of mainstream shluchim.

Case in Point: When Boruch Hecht, Cunin's oldest son-in-law wanted to move to LA, he got an answer from the Rebbe that anyone with common sense would understand to mean don't go to LA. He asked Harav Levitansky Zatzal, who told point blank not to move. Cunin, who wanted him, never forgave Levitansky for this, and waited for the opportunity to detroy him. I've got alot more, but this will suffice for now.

I had the honor of knowing Rabbi Levitansky when I was a kid. Everything about him stank with pure love for his fellow yid. Ironic then how people are using his histalkus as an excuse to spread hate. If there be any of you out there with an ounce of respect for what he was all about, use this as an opportunity to think about something nice to do or say. Instead of spreading hate do something kind in his memory, because in Levitansky World there is no room for hate.

As far as Sholom goes. The Rebbe wanted Sholom too but not at all costs. Sholom is when Torah principles are followed. You don't make Sholom with Mecharer riv and thief's, only because you are weak to fight.

I think the idea that a sheliach working under these conditions (such as CA) can just 'take the system on' is more than a bit naive. If he does so, his legal right to represent the name of Lubavitch will be stripped, all of the communal infrastructure he and his supporters have built over many years of toil and sleepless nights will be taken away, his kids will be kicked out of the local school and when they grow up they will never be allowed to be hired by any sheliach in CA. Let's get the story straight about kinnus 3 years ago. Cunin has this thing up his a-- about birthright with mixed busses. At the kinnus, he started berating Steinhart about it. The shliach who brought Steinhart to the dinner tried to push him aside, and his bats attacked the shliach. It was classical cunin, not giving a damn about someone else's baalhabos, just to get his point across.

I am not sure what this blog is about. At the end of the day, the Rabbi was an amazing man. His love, passion and wisdom were contagious. I have had the pleasure of knowing the Rabbi and his family for most of my life. Never once did the Rabbi utter a negative word. Everyone was welcome and encouraged to express and explore the religion. When my son was in the NICU, I shared stories that the Rabbi had told me more than twenty years ago. These stories teach one to be pious, charitable and to welcome G-d into our lives. When my parents could not afford Hebrew school, Rabbi never once asked for money. He encouraged me to learn and be a good Jew. Today, June 3rd, 2007 my son had a bris. I am sorry that Rabbi Levitansky was not there to share the day with me. I know he was there in spirit and I would like to share my depth of gratitude for his wisdom throughout my life. I wish many of you had the good fortune to experience his joy and love for both Chabad and his family. All were welcome and he left an indelible impression upon me and one that I continue to share with my family. My heartfelt thoughts and condolences are extended to all. The Rabbi taught me that we never hate a person, but wish they would change their behavior. I will miss him.

I was the Baal Agola for a while in LA, and when the "big" rabbi needed a ride i was treated like a prince, an important person, or at least like a human being. But when he didn't need a ride, I did not exist. The guy could look through me like I wasn't even there.
I just wrote to a friend of mine who works for a rabbi in LA that I heard that his rabbi boss was making an awful lot of money now. He wrote back "Just because he is making money doesn't mean that I am."
This is where Avremel shined. Every single Jew and I dare say even every non-Jew he encounter was a human being, a person with needs and hopes. And Avremel treated each of us with concern and love whether he needed us or not.

There appears to be a misconstrued idea of the events unfolding in Santa Monica on this blog. Yes, Rabbi Levitansky was a great man, but in his later years he proved to be an insufficient leader.

But has it occurred to MS that over that at the time of Rabbi Levitansky’s death there were only three or four families (not including Levitansky’s) living in Santa Monica. This is down from 12 to 13 only a couple years earlier. The community fell apart. What prompted a once blossoming community to become the ghost town it is today?
There is quite a bit of complaining regarding Rabbi Cunin placing a new shliach in Santa Monica, thus imposing on the Levitansky domain. Family Relative, who obviously by comparing Rabbi Cunin (a chosid chosen by the Rebbe to be the head Shliach of California) to Amalek shows not only a lack of basic respect, but also a lack mental stability, complains earlier how the new Chabad house on 17th street is to close to the Levitansky Chabad House. Obviously Family Relative has not spent much time in Santa Monica or he/she would have realized that even closer to the Levitansky Chabad House is Rabbi Baruch Raboniwitz’s Chabad House on Wilshire in between 11th and 12th street.
There were two Chabad Houses serving the constituency south of Montana, but no Chabad House serving the North of Montana constituency. Rabbi Levitansky proved himself to be an incapable leader in his later years for he was unable to stop Rabbi Robinowitz from moving his Chabad House south of Montana Ave.
People can criticize Rabbi Cunin if they want, but the fact remains, he did a service to the Jews living North of Montana in Santa Monica who needed a minyan to go to on Shabbas and could not make the long walk south of Montana Avenue.
So please, do not spread hatred, especially regarding matters in which you are ill informed.

I said to him years ago that to have no controversy around you in Chabad you had to have done absolutely nothing. He agreed. When there was only one Chabad house in the world. They had nothing. No money, no prestige, and were reviled by every established Los Angeles Jewish Organization. There was no Aish HaTorah, no kiruv movement. They built Chabad together, along with their wives and especially Ruchie Stilman, who ran Westwood. I grew from a young teen to a 51 year old man with them. I raised my children in Chabad. I met the Rebbe in 1975, when I attended YU. If you needed a minyan, all you had to do was ask, or better yet, do as we all have done, open your own home to a minyan. That is how we always start Chabad houses. But after watching his years, 40 years of dedicated service to others, and then losing him it is very very painful to hear people turn on him and all he taught. As his student, friend, adopted son and his lawyer, I ask in the name of Rabbi Avroham Halavi Levitansky, to stop this blog now. Stop it and not start it elsewhere. He was a true dugma Chaya, the blessing the Rebbe gave him at his Bar Mitzvah. Do as he did. Stop this sina chinam now.
