Yes, (as Victor Davis Hanson has pointed out) unlike Nancy Pelosi, Hillary Clinton, Sally Quinn -- Sarah Palin's political career was not launched by a powerful father or husband.
She is doing it herself.
From the PTA to the White House.
America's Thatcher.

My wife made a prediction tonight: She said you know why McCain is going to win? Because Sarah Palin is the first person in this campaign to come along with POSITIVE ENERGY and that is what people gravitate to and like. Not to Obama's "change we can believe in" that implies that everything is wrong with our lives, but Palin is all about a positive attitude and she is all TEFLON, like nothing is going to get to her. Oh, so people say that her 17 year daughter is pregnant, so what? As long as Sarah exudes positive energy they can't get to her.

"In fact we are witnessing the reassertion of sexuality. Just when executive women from Golda Meir to Hillary Clinton accustomed us to the idea that a powerful woman is asexual by definition, here comes a cross between Cleopatra and the naughty librarian fantasy. "
Hey wait a minute - Golda was a babe - no Mrs. Adler mind you but a hottie nonetheless

why is there a value being placed on asexuality? Besides, this difference (between two post menopausal women and a woman who is still in her physical prime) is in the eyes of the writer not in the way she is being treated by the public or in how she presents herself. Perhaps she should wear overalls and birkenstocks swear off shaving her legs and using makeup

The choice of Sarah Palin was not some obvious, one dimensional decision. On the contrary she is a perfect fit in a very complicated jigsaw puzzle.
Now for something entirely different: (With apologies to the delicate and to those who have already heard it.)
Did you hear the one about the UJA dinner where the top donors were honored for their generosity to the State of Israel? First they called up the third place honoree and awarded him a brand new Cadillac (it was the 70's) with all the options. Then the second place winner was called up and awarded a Jerusalem kugel. Stunned and greatly dismayed he protested that it made no sense that his award should be of lesser value, to put it mildly, than the third place winner. When the master of ceremonies explained with genuine enthusiasm that this kugel was hand baked by Golda Meir the second place honoree responded in disgust, "F#@*K Golda Meir!" To which the master of ceremonies replied, "That's first prize."

Oops I did it again. I might be hiding behind a nom de blog but I am not anonymous.
Had a chance to follow the links included above. Self important sophisticates who just can't accept that Sarah Palin is attractive on many levels that appeal to average Americans in the same way that most Americans would prefer a grilled steak to nuvo-cuisine.

Every day that goes by with respect to this VP selection shows that Senator John S McCain is a brilliant political strategist, a man of sound judgment, and a man with the courage of his convictions. Those qualities are desirable in a president.
How long before Biden gets the Eagleton treatment?
