Gravatar nice post, Andy. i'm accessing the net from an internet cafe, with no audio, so haven't listened to the podcast.

I agree with your closing line - 'don't think innovation has escaped us..'. I was at a talk last week in Bangalore by Intel Capital's top honcho and by talking to a lot of people there, it seems like 'opportunities' as defined by VC's don't necessarily have anything to do with 'innovation'. consider this: people here in bangalore believe that there is a tonload of money to be made in software outsourcing, and there are investors (not Intel Capital) who are more than willing to invest in these since the scope for huge gains still exists. it's almost a sure thing rather than invest in a podcasting startup in the US, say.

Gravatar Good points poweryogi. I would agree that VCs don't necessarily have anything to do with innovation. Although, I would say they are focused on the opportunities created by and through innovation.

When you get a chance listen to the podcast. I think you would find it rather interesting.

Gravatar Your comments are more balanced than the ones you are quoting.

Like about no growth options in the US. Not true. It is just that some of the high return ticket items happen to be currently abroad.

I think he is trying to overemphasize, not mislead.

Gravatar Andy: I appreciate your taking the time to listen to my podcast and read my blog. You make some good points about opportunities for entrepreneurs in the U.S. That's why I'm still a VC here. My point is that I'm seeing more opportunities to grow companies and achieve liquidity in other markets, as demonstrated this year by the IPO market in China. If I were younger, I would seriously consider moving to China for at least a visit. When I started my career, I was fortunate to catch a growth surge in the technology market. Good luck with your MBA and your career. Sincerely, Keith
