Didn't Comrade Gumbleton just turn 75? Hasn't he been put out to pasture yet?

I guess as long as he has a bully pulpit (i.e. the "Peace Pulpit") over at NCR, we'll never be completely rid of his heterodox spewings.

Yeah, he even bragged about postponing the sending of his resignation, because he figures the Vatican would be all too happy to accept it.

When JPII was dying the Vatican announced the elevation of 19 or so bishops and the acceptance of 6 resignations. I was hoping that our frendly neighborhood Bolshevik was one of those, but he wasn't.
