You've got to understand. For Catholic educators, the importance is on the education part and not the "Catholic" part.

Giraffes next to a candle? Now that's gotta be ONE BIG CANDLE!
And turtles and frogs? (how I wish these poor misguided aging sisters would pull their heads in before they croak...)
How's this for the concluding part of the Lenten Reflection: "Is there a facet of God's beloved earth community with which you are in discord?"
Yes, I think it is the entire IHM community. Which is a great pity given all the good that was done when they were fully Catholic.
It's a great irony really. Their website reveals their passion for "building the future" and for "sustainability".
Yet they can do neither for their own community.

William,
I think that is precisely the problem. There is an intrinsic value to the ‘Catholic’ portion of Catholic Education. Not all educations are the same or yield the same fruits. As religious sisters, they should not be content with just any form of education. If that was a legitimate view, why should we bother having Catholic schools in the first place?
There are plenty of Catholic schools that lack a Catholic character as it is. I think Sister Joan should be administrating/teaching in a Catholic school and with a decidedly Catholic influence.

Thank you, Venerable Aussie.
You present a very astute analysis of the plight of the IHMs.
It really is sad when you consider how great they once were.
