What if you have to market something that you don't personally believe in?

Pdxbiker,
What do you mean? Normally when you are hired by a company you already know what products they sell.
I have worked for this company before and don't have a problem marketing and/or selling alcohol. So that isn't an issue for me.
However, I wouldn't work for a tobacco company because that is something that I am against.

That's a tough call. I would never go any futher south than I already am, but thats just me. In fact I want to move to MA, or to Canada. I however, have civil rights issues as my driving factor in life.
It's tough. I can certainly understand the steady paycheck and benifits, but what will it cost you in happiness? I don't envy you your decission.

Damelbo,
Thanks, it is nice to know that wherever I move, I'll still have my blogger friends.
Zoe,
I think that is my main discrimination against the south. I really enjoy living in a Blue State and don't want to go south where the majority of the Red States are. It is really sad that America is so divided that I feel this way, but as the sister of a gay brother, I am all about the civil rights as well. As kids we used to bicker back and forth, but as adults I wish he was considered my equal under the law and his relationships had the same benefits as mine.
I am off to call the current employee to get the low-down on the job. Then I guess I'm going to have to make one of my positive, negative lists and see which wins out.

AKH,
I was thinking that if you were hired by a marketing firm, then you wouldn't know what products that you would eventually market. Most firms are not large enough to have an internal marketing department.
If you look red/blue map that uses counties instead of states as the political entities, there is virtually no difference between the red and blue states. The blue states are blue because the large urban areas contain the most population and the red states are red because the population is mostly rural. Rural MA is as red as rural AL and Atlanta is as blue as Seattle.

PDXBiker,
You are correct. My goal is to get into a big corporation that has their own marketing department that way I can gain experience in all the different aspects of marketing and work my way up the corporate ladder.
Your also right on the red/blue state issue. I guess I just have a problem with living in a more rural area. I prefer the diversity in urban areas as opposed to rural areas.
