Because latex was so common in hospitals, many of the workers are now allergic to latex. Some are so allergic that they will have a reaction to the microscopic latex particles that come from latex products. A few years ago, all the latex gloves were removed from the stock shelves at the medical lab where I work, so I was forced to use the latex substitute glove. I got a reaction from that, so I maintained an illegal stockpile of latex gloves.

Zoe,
I don't get it either.
pdxbiker,
That makes sense ... I guess. I thought maybe it was because of germs or something like that. Thanks for the info.

Its definitely not the germs. Most infections in a hospital are caused by the staff not washing their hands.

pdxbiker,
REALLY? That's sad. I guess I should be happy that I've never had to be in the hospital.

Stephen,
It is just annoying that the people who sell you the balloons don't point this out. They should post a sign or something that says if you are taking them to a hospital, stick with the mylar balloons. OH well, now I know and I felt the need to share it with my blogging public.
