I remember reading an article in Esquire magazine years ago that said you should prepare yourself for having at least 6 careers in your life. Gone are the days that you pick a career/job and get a gold watch after 25 years.
In my life I have had jobs doing just about everything except brain surgery and bungee jumping. I'll let you in on a little secret. It's not what you choose to do that matters. What does matter is that you choose something.
Being a welder-fitter has nothing to do with the kind of work I do today but the fact that I got that certification and did that job gave the the confidence to look at non-traditional employment opportunities - think outside the box if you will. So I don't regret the time or money I invested in that trade.
Think about what you like to do and what you are good at then look for a job in that area/field. Think about what transferable skills you have that you can use to try something you've never considered before. Think of your life as an adventure. Sure, it can be scary sometimes but don't let that stop your journey.
And don't forget to come back here and tell us all about the ride!
