I couldn't agree with this more. The vast majority of the wingnuts I know off the intertubes are very nice. They'd also vote with Bush 100% of the time if they had the chance.
The Cole types are the fucking worst because of their bizarre notion of "pragmatism vs. idealism." Because if all the angry people just shut up and act meek and give the other side a chance, of course the bigoted opposition will see the error of their ways and not stab you in the back the first chance they get when in a position to do so.

My writing could use some improvement but that YouTube speaks volumes. Please watch it whether you read the post or not.
I hope everyone enjoys the holidays.

Hey DFH... thanks for sharing your story and your thoughts. Obama's much to careful a politician to make this pick, even if he is trying to mend fences. This is an unforgivable slap in the face

What do you think of straight types coming out in solidarity. I "outed" myself in group therapy the 23rd to a bunch of pious ignorant Mormons, the wrote about it, then it was suggested that I out myself more publicly, which I did, but caused a bit of a controversy in the tubes.

OK. first, yo, Margaret!
2nd //so sick of the reaction by some in the hetero community who seem to feel that we in the LGBT community are somehow "whining" about Obama's selection of Rick Warren //
I guess I am a member of the hetero community that doesn't give a shit about Rick Warren. I am also a member to the Agnostic/Athiest community. Why you 'need' any kind of minister at an inauger-thon is beyond me. And I don't think the LGBT community is 'whining'. It is valid expression. I believe that the 'right'wing-evangelical religiousty group have spent entirely too much time and energy telling other people what to do and how to live. Screw that noise!
I am reminded of an adage, first stated by some chinese-dude ages ago and reiterated in the Godfather....
"Keep your friends close, and your enemies closer."
I am hoping that is what Obama is doing. The Conservative Right had fits when, during the campaign, Obama said he would talk with Iran and North Korea. They were outraged. TALK with ENEMIES!!!!!
But I felt Obama was correct. You cannot change anyone's mind by calling them idiots or dumb-fucks (even when true).
Please, don't misunderstand me. The violence described by Margaret is reprehensible and should never be allowed....against ANYONE for ANY reason... but you will never change anyone's mind by not talking with them.
It is time for change. And we all need to work to make it happen.
Anyways. It was a good post and I hope to read from you soon.

Wow.
Thank you, Margaret, for telling your very personal and powerful. I understand a little better about how you must feel about this, and the rage. I can never fully understand, as I've never been in your shoes.
The ONLY good thing I can see out of Obama picking the hateful Warren is that it has elevated the discussion of these critical issues, which I hope will acccelorate the trend to full inclusion and recognition of the human rights for the GLBT community.
You're doing your part, very commendable.
