That's hilarious--I always wondered why everyone has a trampoline. The weird gasping sound you heard is called a pulmonic ingression. I thought that just Norwegians did it, but it turns out people do it all over Europe, in Canada and Maine, and even in some Asian and African countries. In Norway it's a way of reassuring someone to keep talking, or expressing agreement.
