Gravatar At the beginning of the semester, I do a lot of attitude readjustment. As part of "the talk", I tell them that I'm a firm believer of what Mark Twain (at least I think it's his) said:

"Confusion is a powerful agent on the path to redemption".

Or, as the Redneck Father said to his son,

"That hurts like hell, don't it? Bet you won't do that again!"


Gravatar Thanks for the link to my blog and the post, and the attempted trackback -- I'm having some SpamLookup issues that are causing ALL my trackbacks to be blocked, not just the ones from online poker sites. Gah.

I appreciate your last paragraph particularly here. It's tough for students to learn that a certain amount of frustration is an essential part of the learning process. I remember in fact a student writing "He seems to think that being frustrated is part of learning!" as a comment on a course evaluation, intended as a negative... but interpreted by the tenure committee as positive!
