Gravatar DEAR SIRS, IVE BEEN PRETTY QUIET UP TILL KNOW,ABOUT THESE FUEL PRICES,FOR COMMERICAL TRUCKS,and the delivering of the consumers commodites,im an independent owner opperator,and have watched my fuel bill go from,2400.oo dollars,from coast to coast,to over 6200,00 for the very same turn,in really the last year& half,the general freight is not covering all the fuel costs,& im having to take out of my owen poctet,the problem here is ,if the fuel goes up another 50cents per gallen,it will be the end of ous,I carry specialized flatbed commoditeys ,for the military,mfg,car dealerships,& NASA AEROSPACE,just to mention a few,im seriously,am thinking about giving the trk back to the bank,im in debt,up to my eyballs,im behind on my taxes,& its getting harder to maintain my trk& trailer,because fuel prices are taking away from the basic essentials for opperating,in short the the industry is about to be short one MORE truck,which is what i think is wanted, IM NOT THE ONLY ONE THATS IN THIS POSITON,i have many friends that are discusted,with all of this & are getting out, THANK you for hearing me& my storey,sincerlly john post,owerner opperator.


Gravatar That's the whole point of the "let prices be set by the market" perspective. If less oil becomes available, prices MUST increase. That will cause consumers to use less (either by carpooling, buying more fuel efficient cars or whatever). It will also provide greater incentives for inventors and/or manufacturers to create a more fuel efficient means of transportation.

To paraphrase a quote about democracy, "the market mechanism is the worst possible mechanism for allocating goods and services -- except for all other mechanisms"


Gravatar I don't think that we need to cap oil or gas prices, but we do need to lessen our demand for it. Higher prices do this, but it is more fundamentally a problem with the vehicles and power sources we use. I just received an article about a lack of improvement in fuel efficiency over the past ten years. http://www.technologybizdev.com/...ing-its-weight/ The same article also calls for a push into non-oil-based fuel sources.
