any communication containing any threat to injure the property OR REPUTATION of the addressee...

My emphasis.

Pretty clear that a threat to out a blogger would be a threat to injure the blogger's reputation.

Gravatar I believe Equity has previously stated his/her desire to stay anonymous, since it could negatively effect his/her professional prospects. If so, and a demand for payment were made, it could result in possible criminal liability.

But I'm not a lawyer, so what do I know?

Gravatar I dont think it's extorsion according to the law. There is no threat to harm such as those stated in the law.

The law:
Whoever, with intent to extort from any person, firm, association, or corporation, any money or other thing of value, transmits in interstate or foreign commerce any communication containing any threat to injure the property or reputation of the addressee or of another or the reputation of a deceased person or any threat to accuse the addressee or any other person of a crime, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than two years, or both.

I expect my payment by monday. Just kidding!
