Gravatar Yes, data is often *bad* and must be trained.

And training is best done behind closed doors. That way no one can hear the noise the data makes while it's being "trained".

Gravatar Misbehaving data.

I *hate* misbehaving data.

Darned data.

Gravatar Hardly. I had a couple of bad years when my son was in treatment and immediately thereafter. During that time, I didn't finish much, so I had projects that kept going through the cycle.

It wasn't a real issue since even while not working too hard, I was still well above the standards for tenure at my previous school (I just needed the time in grade so I could go up).

Now, I'm back to being an untenured assistant, and the standards are a bit higher here (not much, but a bit). So, it's back to the grindstone. I have been informed by the Unknown Wife that failing to get tenure here is NOT an option, since this si our "dream" location. So, she said that if I don't get it, I should enjoy the commute to my next job, since SHE isn't moving again.

In any event, since I took a few years off the research wheel, I'm eager to get back to it. Research is frustrating (particularly as an empiricist, since the data never seems to behave properly). But it's what makes this job fun.

Gravatar And, it is OBVIOUS why you have fallen short of satisfying "the rule."

You get too many papers ACCEPTED.

The key to meeting the rule EASILY is to make sure you keep cycling through revise and resubmits.

If you keep getting papers accepted, you will just make the rest of us look bad.

Glad to be able to help!
