Bark!

Gravatar As they say themselves :
"With the release of our first public poll I felt the necessity to produce the companies website for the public. and media Please look forward to more polls for the public in the near future.

Management"

"public. and media"

*snerk*

Gravatar Alison - "public. and media" That include bloggers?

This is too funny. Did you read SUZANNE's post? She is missing the point entirely.

I could care less if a PCP MP's brother or whatever runs a polling company. The point is, this is an extremely questionable and misleading poll conducted by and for anti-abortion wingnuts for the express purpose of propaganda. Polls conducted by ideological allies aren't credible. Period. (And there are other reasons this one isn't credible, but I'll leave it at that.)

The fact that there's a vague CPC connection is just icing on the cake. Harper doesn't need this.

Gravatar SUZANNE is deeply, deeply stupid. Not just wrong, not just a bigot, but really, honestly thick as two planks.

Gravatar I think YOU miss the point. They have a website now. Suddenly, they've acquired legitimacy.

Gravatar JJ: If you look at the bottom of KLRVU's home page you can see the notation "Member of MRIA" (Marketing Research and Intelligence Association)a trade group. However -- cue the music -- KLRVU is not listed! See here:
http://www.mria-arim.ca/Corporat...rch/ Results.asp
(This detective stuff is fun!)

Gravatar the website was created yesterday and no info on registrant is given as they went through domains by proxy.

See info here

Gravatar FWIW, the site is also hosted at GoDaddy. I recognize the name servers.

Gravatar KLRVU's listed phone number is also exactly the same phone number as "LaserCut Designs" ... the company owned by Allan and Katherine Bruinooge.

How terribly incestuous, oui?

Gravatar With regards to the time stamps on Suzanne's site, the time on any blogspot post will reflect the time that it is first saved to drafts. So if you start to compose something, save it, and add links, it will reflect the start of that process, not the final posting.

About Suzanne, I think she's a bit stupid and a bit too ready to believe anyone who she sees as on her own side and too ready to disbelieve those on the opposite side. She is not, as far as I have seen, dishonest.

Gravatar I wonder if Mr. Bruinooge had anything to do with the fiasco involving anti-ssm robo-calls in the last election.

Gravatar Very interesting question, timekeeper.

Gravatar From KLR Vu website:

Using a random sample of All Canadian Households with a phone and address and based on regional population density, we were able to poll every province and territoriy (sic)in Canada which enabled us to have such a large sample size and accurate result.

Gravatar More from KLR Vu website:

Why Particpate?
In a dictatorship, no one calls to ask what you think.

In a Communist country, no one calls to ask what you think.

But here, in Canada, we live in a Democracy. In a Democracy, a “regular guy,” ordinary people, get a say.

Or if we don't get the answers our client wants, we keep asking until we do.

Gravatar Timekeeper,

It looks from the KLRVu website that these guys broadcast marketing messages more than they do polls. Also, I thought I read somewhere that they've been around since 2006.

Gravatar Plagiarism alert! See Plagiarism at KLRVU.

Gravatar Hmm. Some KLRVU pages link to the MRIA -- the Marketing Research & Intelligence Association. But a search of their membership here produces no result for KLRVU.

Gravatar Thanks to all the easterners who jumped on this while I was sleeping out here in lotusland!!! Updates have been added!

Gravatar Check you email JJ, I just finished raiding the site and getting their domain registration data, the domain was freshly registered on July 20th.

I sent you a complete site strip in a zip file. Lots of errors in the HTLP and Java coding, none functional links. This web site was thrown together very quickly, I will go over the detail code this weekend to see what other goods there are.

PS, I left very large boot prints on their sites web logs while doing this, the HTLM client in their web logs will show WEBSTRIPPER 3.012. ~evil grin~

I' strip the site again tomorrow ~evil grin~

Gravatar YA Buckets! We ride again Brother, fighting the lying Rightwing Desperontos!!!

Now if you can Balby and Ian to saddle up, we'll have these shmucks in cuff by nightfall!!

Giddy-Up!!!

WHAA-HOOOO!!!!

The Digital Posse Rides Again!!!

Gravatar Wot fun!!!!!

Merkin spledding too.

Gravatar Hey buckets, thanks for that! It sounded pretty hinkey to me, for the website of a company based in Winnipeg. That 'better dead than red' doesn't exactly go over big in the city where one of the biggest workers' et al strikes of the 20th century was held.

Gravatar There's nothing particularly wrong with using GoDaddy. I have a hosting account there right now where I play with some different web apps I want to look at. I put it there for the obvious reasons -- it's self-serve and inexpensive.

And that's the point. If I wanted to get something up and running quick and dirty, GoDaddy is exactly where I would do it. You can register the domain there (which they've done -- a regular whois search refers you to GD's whois server and GD allows you to add Domain By Proxy's privacy protection) and buy your hosting all without ever leaving your chair or picking up a phone. So if I wanted it up and running quickly and wanted to just cobble together some content, which they've obviously done, I could be live in a matter of hours.

Gravatar Re: KLR Vu's website graphic

Is that telescope for looking up my vag? You know, like a uterine forensics inspector.

Gravatar Actually, having read what these guys do, it isn't even market research so much as phone spamming.

Gravatar SQ - Thanks for that! I noticed that last night and it occurred to me that anything these people say they're "a member of" should be double-checked, but in the wee small hours I was just too tired. Good work!

Gravatar LuLu - "How terribly incestuous, oui?"

Well in all fairness, they DID claim same-sex marriage would lead to incestuous marriages.

Gravatar RB - "SUZANNE is deeply, deeply stupid."

I don't know, RB, if it's deeply stupid as much as a case of being blinded by ideology. (Cue the "pot kettle" accusations.)

She does seem to have problems understanding simple equations, though -- like why this poll would be looked askance at because the pollster concurs with the ideology of the group that commissioned him.

Gravatar JJ, Zorph,

Shoot me those Zip files too - I make Java based web application for a living so I might be able to find some stuff too. Many eyes and all that

Gravatar Nah, JJ, I gotta go with deeply, blindly stupid, sorry.

BTW, I've written to that American company and the MRIA, just in case they might be interested in this.

Gravatar BCL - Yes, I am totally missing the point of their legitimacy.

Gravatar Just fired them off to you Mike, consider yourself shot

Woot! Woot!

Gravatar April Reign - Thanks! I knew you'd be able to come up with something.

So it appears that the website was registered on Sunday (before this explosion) but wasn't actually created until yesterday?

Then it looks like they were grabbing a placeholder site *just in case*-- and then once all these questions started coming up, they realized they would have to actually put up a site.

Yes, that's how most businesses operate, for sure *eyeroll*

Gravatar Do a Massive New Polling, Check

Hope no one notices,... oh fudge muffins!

Gravatar LuLu - "KLRVU's listed phone number is also exactly the same phone number as "LaserCut Designs" ... the company owned by Allan and Katherine Bruinooge"

Yes, it's nice to have it showing up on an actual website instead of just buried in a press release.

Gravatar Seriously though, how can I write anything funnier than this. The whole story is one big punch line, LOL

Gravatar Man, SHE's spinning at her place. Three or is it four posts on this now. More fun!

Gravatar This is a paraphrased comment I left on someone else's website:

'I think KLRVU is the company that watches the lottery balls get drummed out of the machines. I wonder why I never win the big prize. I think I now know why.'

Gravatar Popcorn, I demand Popcorn!

Gravatar timekeeper - "She is not, as far as I have seen, dishonest."

I agree. I don't think she is stupid or dishonest as much as extremely ideologically-blindered. Also, though she can be intellectually dishonest, I've never seen her actually engage in deliberate dishonesty.

In fact, I'd go even further and say that she's a meticulously honest blogger (using strikethroughs to edit instead of just changing things, etc.) Her blog's content is another story

The nature of her blog is that it's a bit of a propaganda vehicle, that's no secret. So in a situation where there's already more than a little subterfuge going on, things that look *askew* tend jump out at me.

Gravatar timekeeper - "I wonder if Mr. Bruinooge had anything to do with the fiasco involving anti-ssm robo-calls in the last election."

If I had to guess, I'd say no. If I'm reading the article right, it looks like those calls did more harm than good to the CPC candidate.

But who knows?

Gravatar deBeauxOs - "Or if we don't get the answers our client wants, we keep asking until we do."

That's it in a nut. That's how this type of MASSIVE POLL works, keep shifting the goalposts and calling more households. That's primarily why it's not valid polling methodology. You can't shift the goalposts. You pick 1000 random households and go with it.

And I should add, even 1000 households is almost overkill. In advertising, 250-300 is considered a decent sample size. (And there's a lot more riding on the results, to the tune of billions of $$$.)

Gravatar JJ,

The technology behind the Morgentaler poll and a phone blast is the same, though.

Voice broadcasting = phone blasting

Hardly proof, but interesting nevertheless.

Gravatar Buckets - "Plagiarism alert!"

Give 'em a break, Buckets, they didn't have much time to throw this thing together

Gravatar Hold the presses!

Allan Bruinooge emailed me to say he was NOT behind the Lois Brown thing. I've told him he ought to ditch the Survey USA material and rewrite.

Gravatar pogge - "There's nothing particularly wrong with using GoDaddy."

For you or me. But something claiming to be a legitimate polling company? OK, I suppose some little tiny companies might use it, but geez. Tacky.

Gravatar Dr. Prole - "Is that telescope for looking up my vag?"

Yes, it's the Ministry of Virtue and Vice. Keep those knees together, young lady!

Gravatar BCL - I'd be most interested to see anything else they've done. However, I doubt that will be forthcoming.

Gravatar Mike - Check your email!

Gravatar fern hill - "Man, SHE's spinning at her place."

Not surprising. 3 or 4 posts?? Methinks the lady protesteth too much...

Gravatar JJ, only way you'll ever see anything else they've done is by diving into their septic tank.

Gravatar Lois Brown thing? Sorry I missed something here. Explain please or give me a linkie,... where's my Kevlar Jacket and popcorn?

Come on JJ more popcorn!!!!

Gravatar BCL - "Allan Bruinooge emailed me to say he was NOT behind the Lois Brown thing"

Didn't think so. Sometimes these anti-choice/anti-gay whackjobs get loose and run around destroying CPC candidates' electoral chances all by themselves

Gravatar Canadian Cynic is wading battle. Kevlar Helmets are recommend, W00T!

Gravatar Zorph - Comment #11 by timekeeper

Gravatar TO ALL COMMENTERS:

I'm having a hard time keeping up with all the comments, so I apologize to anyone I haven't responded to. (I'm actually getting a headache from trying to keep up with this.)

Also, if anyone is going to run with this thing and do some digging, one word: screenshot.

Thanks troops! As you were!

Gravatar Zorpheus - "Canadian Cynic is wading battle."

Now they've done it! Woohoo!

Gravatar Hey JJ, check your email. It's got some transcripts you "might" find useful.

Gravatar It's never complete mayhem until Canadian Cynic starts letting loose. You just know how much the religious right nutjobs love Canadian Cynic, LOL.

Sit back JJ and enjoy the show you help create. Lol, this has been the best entertainment I have had since Cozumel.

Gravatar Wow! I go to sleep, and the rest of the world goes to an online party! Great stuff, everybody!

JJ, I'm gonna join the ranks of "SHE's stupid and dishonest." I think you're being 'way too kind. Something about HER hits your sympathy button, or somethin'. Be careful -- SHE will take advantage of that, you know.

Gravatar Eric - Is it the transcript from your phone call with MaryEllen? Thanks for reminding me -- I meant to ask you a few posts back if you could post it at your place or send it.

Actually, I'm almost glad I forgot to ask you -- in light of what we now know, the transcript should be that much more amusing

Gravatar Zorph - "this has been the best entertainment I have had since Cozumel."

It is pretty good, eh?

But nothing is better than Cozumel I was there about 20 years ago, when the resorts were just starting to get built. What a place, it was heavenly. Me and 3 other girls -- we got into about 52 weeks worth of trouble in 2 weeks All those young guys running charter boats... ooh lala.

Gravatar Yes, also the one from Alan B. At your yahoo email address.

Gravatar Chimera - "I'm gonna join the ranks of "SHE's stupid and dishonest"

Well, my mother always told me I cut people way too much slack, and no doubt this is just another example.

At some level I'm sure she knows that some of the stuff she posts is utter bullshit -- ie. "The Feminists" think it's OK to "grind up" fetuses at 8 months, that sort of thing. That kind of inflammatory language is intended to make her regular readers clutch their pearls and cut another cheque for Campaign Life.

SUZ. is first and foremost a propagandist, and that's the nature of propaganda, keep repeating it over & over again until it seeps into the public consciousness.

That's why, although these people are a mere drop in the bucket of Canadians, it's important to call them out at every turn.

Gravatar Mé - "'I think KLRVU is the company that watches the lottery balls get drummed out of the machines. I wonder why I never win the big prize. I think I now know why.'"

I'm sure we could come up with some pretty funny possibilities for other sidelines for this little outfit -- maybe they're the ones that do the traffic count in cities, and that's why the lights always seem so fucked up (10 red lights in a row, etc.)

Gravatar One thing that should be noted is that KLRVU is really little more than a phone spam company, as I've pointed out over at my place.

Gravatar Off-topic:

"I have a copy of the HTML page source code *just in case* that changes."

Tip:

Use Zotero (free) for this:
- it lets you make a full automatic snapshot of the page, that you can easily find back; no need to copy HTML code anymore.
- they have a plugin for firefox that works 100%!

Great for all kinds of internet research.

Did I already mention it is free?

Gravatar Just posted on my site

Over at Bouquets of Gray, Buckets has been using his fine tooth comb to examine the KLR VU Research Company. It seems they are one of the lovely companies that have those annoying autodialers that call up at supper time to tell you you have won a vacation, or they can fix your credit card debt,... you know the type PHONE SPAMMERS.

Now if I was an evil little Squirrel (hey I am an evil Little Squirrel), I might suggest everyone in Canada call KLR Vu Research at 1-204-999-7446 and ask them their opinion of how annoying PHONE SPAMMERS are. Hey, sauce, goose and gander and all that!

Gravatar You da man Buckets!!!

Gravatar Phone spammers... I think there must be some evil rightwing mastermind who keeps coming up with the evils of our time: phone spamming, freeping, "think" tanks, astroturf groups. Some decaying Evil Emperor or Cockroach Queen sends forth their teeming hordes of mindless minions to destroy the good guys, except the minions usually lose their way and get diverted into rolling around in the first pile of festering excrement they see.

Gravatar You da man Buckets!!!

Ahem: "da Person", Zorph, "da person": if we can't be politically correct on this blog, where can we be?

Gravatar This may not be plagiarism so much as borrowing, with permission, from USian partner(s). In other words, I wouldn't be surprised that we soon uncovered a link between KLRVU and Survey-USA.

Gravatar Buckets - Woohoo! You da man!!!

(This is not a politically-correct zone )

Gravatar WOOT You's Da Bucket!

Now everyone remember to call KLR Vu Research at 1-204-999-7446 and ask them how annoying they find PHONE SPAMMERS, hopefully it is a phone in the home. Call in the middle of the night. Call them often.

Remember, that number is 1-204-999-7446

Gravatar Eric - Thanks for that -- but I still don't know how to get it to screen shot a page source. Can you help me out with that? Thanks.

I am still trying to get to your email.

Gravatar Zorpheus - Thanks for running with this -- if we make enough noise, maybe the MSM will hear it and start asking questions.

Gravatar Crystal Ocean,

No connection. Bruinooge has already started to alter several of the pages Buckets referred to. (same theme as Survey USA, now different wording. He's also cleaned up some of the typos.)

Gravatar I'll site rape the place tomorrow morning, LOL

Gravatar Hhmmmm,.... I might give Esther and Garth a jingle about this tonight and see If he might blog about it. The CPC connection might be enough for him to want to play with it. LOL

Gravatar It actually won't screenshot the page-source; it will take an exact copy of the page you are watching, and save it in the zotero-plugin-folder of firefox (which is only useful to know for if you ever want to switch computers or make a fresh install).

You use the take-snapshot-button on the top bar for making a snapshot (the button looks like a photocamera and a green + sign), and that's all there is to it. You should see it then listed in the middle column.

Whenever you need the page again, click the zotero button (bottom right on my firefox), and then click the item in the middle column. Note that it's NOT a bookmark but an exact copy of the page of when you made the snapshot.

In the right column you can then find a link to click for a fresh (internet) copy.

You can organize everything in (folders if you're as organized as my thesis-supervisor) in the left column

I'm out of town, so hopefully it works out with the emails. Sailing to Saturna Isl. this afternoon!

Be back on Sunday.

Gravatar OT, Eric wrote:

"Sailing to Saturna Isl. this afternoon!"

Where my dad kept the lighthouse one summer.

Gravatar HA!!! Just got buzzed by the HoC on this whole affair, LOL. I am definaely going drop a few email tonight!!! Maybe nothing will happen, maybe not. who knows, but this has been fun.

Gravatar Good grief. HER latest post: 'JJ still sadly trying to discredit poll results that say 55% of Canadians disapprove of Morgentaler receiving Order of Canada'

So I informed HER that nobody is sad, we're all having a rollicking good time watching the wheels fall off 'the massive poll'.

Oh and I had to ask HER: Did CLC go with this marketing research company because it was the cheapest one it could afford, or because it would deliver the results that CLC wanted?

Gravatar Zorph - Garth might be interested. If nothing else, it might be an opportunity for him to yank a Conservative MP's chain (although, realistically, what a guy's brother does isn't a big deal.)

I was also getting a ton of hits from gc.ca yesterday (I have a few "friendlies" there, but not that many). Haven't checked yet to see if they've been back today.

W00t!

Gravatar Eric - Thanks a lot! Have fun on Saturna. It's Bathtub Weekend up here so I might be doing a little sailing myself, err I mean "ALE-ing"

Gravatar deBeauxOs - "So I informed HER that nobody is sad, we're all having a rollicking good time watching the wheels fall off 'the massive poll'."

Hell yeah. This joke writes itself. Sadly

Gravatar Chrystal Ocean - I can confirm no connection. SurveyUSA was unaware their material was being used until I told them.

Gravatar Chrystal - "This may not be plagiarism so much as borrowing, with permission, from USian partner(s)."

That's a good thought, but I don't think it goes anywhere -- see comment above this one, from Reality Bites. I think they were just grabbing whatever they could find to throw the site together as quickly as possible.

Good thinking, though.

Gravatar RB - What did they say to you? Ha!

Gravatar The site (KLRVU/KlrVu's) has changed - not sure when, it now reads

"Principal owner is a individual member of MRIA Assocation of Canada"

Fun to watch this pack of lies in progress, or should I say regress?

Gravatar Thanks, sassy, see new post.

This is so stupid and batshit that it's almost science fiction.

They should be paying us for finding all their errors. That's a valuable service.

Gravatar Send them a bill JJ at least 20 hours at 125.00 per hour

Gravatar You think 20 hours is enough time, Zorph? Oh -- I just noticed you said *at least*
