Gravatar Thank you this morning inspiration.

Gravatar How encouraging. I'm in that difficult time of life where prayer and devotion in the morning is real tough to come by...and I miss it. And it will be special to get back on track one day soon.

Gravatar When my son was young and I struggled with these same things, I was often encouraged when I thought of Susannah Wesley (Methodist John Wesley's mother). She gave birth to 19 children, homeschooled 6 hours a day and taught her children that when she pulled her apron over her head, she was not to be disturbed for she was having her time with the Lord. What an image that has always conjured up in my mind! Where there is a will there is a way! Wonderful post, Kim!

Gravatar "My children are older and don’t hear me when I get up, and if they do, they ignore me. "

Oh, how I long for those days to get here! But the pitter patter of little feet and early morning hugs area special thing, too. I guess I'll wait.

Gravatar My pastor (the one from years ago) trained himself to say, upon waking: "Great is Thy faithfulness! Thank you for your mercies renewed every morning!" Then he would remind himself that he belonged not to himself but to God and to his mate. Then he would sing the hymn (which I will copy below) and then he would hit the day!

May the mind of Christ, my Savior,
Live in me from day to day,
By His love and power controlling
All I do and say.

May the Word of God dwell richly
In my heart from hour to hour,
So that all may see I triumph
Only through His power.

May the peace of God my Father
Rule my life in everything,
That I may be calm to comfort
Sick and sorrowing.

May the love of Jesus fill me
As the waters fill the sea;
Him exalting, self abasing,
This is victory.

May I run the race before me,
Strong and brave to face the foe,
Looking only unto Jesus
As I onward go.

May His beauty rest upon me,
As I seek the lost to win,
And may they forget the channel,
Seeing only Him.

Gravatar Thank you for writing that.

Gravatar I'm the only early riser in my house, so I do my morning prayers and meditation from 6-6:30.

I have started saying the Morning Offering. It seems to set my mind at ease that whatever comes up through the day, I offer it all to God:

O Jesus, through the Immaculate Heart of Mary, I offer You my prayers, works, joys, and sufferings this day in union with the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass throughout the world. I offer them for all the intentions of Your Sacred Heart: the salvation of souls, reparation for sin, the reunion of all Christians. I offer them for the intentions of our Bishops and of all members of the Apostleship of Prayer, and in particular for the intentions of the Holy Father.

Gravatar Patty, I love that hymn. We don't sing it much, but I often use it as an offertory or a prelude song.

Gravatar Your cat's name is Pip? That's too funny! I had a cat named Pip!

OK, reaching, here, I know.

No morning prayer time for me. It all happens when the sun's gone down and the children have followed. No guilt, though. I'm fortunate to have wonderful, godly women in my life who let me in on the secret of "seasons" ahead of time. I do look forward to those quiet mornings, again. But in the meantime, God's given me warm, snuggly mornings w/ the boys, and I give Him my quiet evenings before bed.

Dy

Gravatar I love this post. I also think Pip is a great name, and there is nothing wrong with listening to Yo Yo Ma as your write, regardless of what your daughter says.
