Gravatar Kim,

I'm so glad to hear of this. It's always encouraging when others see problems with you (that sounds negative but not what I mean).

I'm intrigued by the Bible study being led by a mother-daughter team. Can you tell me what they are studying and the group that is targeted?

Juanita

Gravatar Oh how I long for teaching such as you seem to have!

Gravatar Juanita:

The mother daughter team is one of my closest friends and her daughter, who is almost 18 years old. They are doing a study in Philippians and Colossians. They are using a study by Precept Ministries. The daughter has been to Precept three years in a row, learning how to teach the bible. The mother has also had training through Precept; in fact, she and I used to teach together.

They meet all together at the beginning for a short time, and then the daughter takes the teen girls, ranging from about 14-16, and they have their study while the mother has the older women.

Gravatar Glad to hear this...Kim, if I may be so bold, and so that I may share this with others, I am certain that I wouldn't be the only person who would appreciate a godly, discerning woman's perspective on Joyce Meyer, Beth Moore, and the whole "Captivating" thing...we have done much groundwork there, but we are always havng new faces whom are devouring this stuff, and another voice, a female voice, would help many people in this regard, I truly believe, and as we see them grow out of it throught sound biblical teaching, it would be a blessing to have a companion article or two about these ministries from someone who isn't a man "just trying to stop me from having any female teachers"...

I don't mean to put you on the spot, sorry if it seems that way...

Gravatar That is great news, I'm so glad you have a number of ladies coming together with a desire to offer/receive "meatier" things! Together you will definitely be setting the tone among/for the other women--pray God will give them a growing desire!

Gravatar Even so: It makes me sad that so many women won't consider (or even listen to) a man's evaluation (and warnings) of the dangers of these women's ministries.

I recall that Lisa at Deo Volente made some posts a while back about Beth Moore studies--it's been a while so I don't recall when. Might give that a look!

Gravatar Connie, it makes me sad too, considering I am their pastor...actually they are doing well, but it helps to have summaries available to be able to give people for review of the types of things they should be on the lookout for...as I told everyone last night, it isn't about beign an attack dog, but a watchdog..

AS far as Lisa, yeah, I have seen it, and I appreciated it, especially as she got so much flak for it...

Gravatar Kim, sorry about the typos...

Gravatar I like the new look, I know that's off topic, and I am probably late to that party, but I didn't want to let the day go by without saying "Nice job!"

Gravatar I am so happy for you that the women were very receptive and in agreement with you about the Thrive thingie.

Gravatar I heartily echo thanks for this type of meeting and outcome. I was very concerned to hear how that conference had gone. I'm grateful that God impressed upon other's hearts the truth of their error as well. May God richly bless the desire for spiritual growth founded in His Word in your ladies' group.
