Gravatar Ah yes, the Adopting? Because you're not be able to get pregnant assumption! I know it well, and it bothers me, too. Maybe some day this will change, I hope anyhow For now you just have to keep informing people on the other reasons to adopt.

Gravatar Hip hip horray for your MIL's call. Feels good to share the news, doesn't it?

Gravatar Unfortunately you'll hear a lot more then that.. Good luck :o)

Gravatar Hi. I stumbled across your site and this post struck a chord with me too. It seems there are very few of us (that I've come across) who adopt without having fertility issues. I don't mind the question so much, but it is very interesting how most people assume that's the only reason why you would adopt.

Gravatar We too do not have fertility issues (that we know about), it is hard for people to view adoption as a first choice to building a family. It is still for the most part accepted as second best. it is time for that to stop. We are forever hearing " now that you are adopting you will get pregnant" assuming there is an issue with fertility.

Enjoyed your post, & I'm glad to hear about other people choosing adoption as a family choice.

The times are changing, although slowly. one thing i've learned through all of this is that everyone has an opinion & most people don't know when to shut -up.

Good luck with your journey.
Ange

Gravatar Thank you for saying what has been bugging me since my husband and I decided to adopt. We haven't tried to get pregnant and have no issues that either of us know of. However, this is the first assumption made by most everyone we talk to and it annoys me.

Gravatar I was just checking out your blog because my husband and I are interested in possibly adopting from Uzbekistan, and I was wondering if I could tap you for some information and perspective. We both served as Peace Corps Volunteers in Uzbekstan about 8 years ago, so that country holds a special place in our hearts.

Basically I was wondering how your whole process is going - how long is it taking and are you happy with the process so far? Any word on when you might actually get a kid? What agency are you going with and are you happy with them?

We are totally starting from scratch and feel slightly overwhelmed with info at this point, so any insight you can give would be great.
