Gravatar VA,

I've noticed you're now mentioning genetics in your posts. (Perhaps you've done so in the past but I've just missed it). You've also mentioned the blog of JW Holliday (Michael Rienzi) a few times so am I right to think he's had some influence on you of late?

Gravatar Matra - I haven't mentioned genetics much in the past, because I don't feel particularly qualified to talk about it, though I've had a longstanding layman's interest in it. But now it's dovetailing with my interest in preserving my people and in presenting a realistic view of racial differences. Hence my increasing reading of blogs on the subject.

Some of the more technical information is over my head, so I don't delve too deeply into the particulars, just the larger ideas.

Although I've linked to bloggers I find helpful or illuminating I can't say I have really become familiar with their work in depth. But the ones I've cited have been blogs that I've found useful.

Gravatar Webb has been married three times, and exactly zero of his wives has been a "Scotch-Irish[-American]" woman. So none of his children are Scotch-Irish (any more than Barack Obama is white). And his latest wife is a Vietnamese 20 years or so his junior, with whom he now has another child. I'm sure that half-Oriental baby will grow up to be a mighty fine Scotch-Irish patriot!

Very strange behavior for someone allegedly so devoted to his Scotch-Irish roots.

Gravatar lenny - good point. It starts to look like some kind of political opportunism on his part, angling for votes from the 'crackers' in his district or whatever.
I had an open mind about him at first, but have not been impressed since by his votes and by what I've learned about him.

Gravatar Well, as he is in the Senate his district is all of Virginia.

What is of note is that in 2006 he rode to the slimmest of victories on the vote margin and turnout in Northern Virginia. "NoVa" is a region mostly bereft of rednecks except on its outer fringes. (Foreign-born and children of foreign-born are something like 30% of NoVa residents. Some of the 9-11 hijackers blended in among NoVa immigrant communities for years.)

It could be that Mr Webb's dive leftwards since taking office has been in reverence to the NoVa liberals and foreigners who delivered him his victory -- and modern political career. He was the darling of the liberals in the DNC and in NoVa when he started his campaign in 2006, as he was anti-war but from a red-state cultural (and formerly political) background, giving him wider appeal. It isn't so hard to imagine a scenario wherein Webb didn't want that honeymoon to end, and so he began conceding a position here and a position there to the left, eventually changing into a liberal with a conservative carapace.

Anyway, the most important lesson, in my opinion, is in Webb's personal life. All indications are that he is genuinely quite dedicated to and "hyper-aware" of his Scotch-Irish ancestry. So what does his choice of 3 very non-Celtic wives [including one non-European] say? And he not only married non-Celts but he also fails to widen his patriotism to "white" to suit his mixed-ethnicity white children. Thus his "ethnopatriotism" is purely academic, and is not meant to be carried into the future whatsoever.

Long story short: If a man makes patriotic noises but ONLY looks backwards or at the present, he is a false friend. Is we are not concerned with the future above all, then what are we doing?
