Something's Gone Wrong Again

Wow - thanks. Osgood's contributions to the MPLS scene are many, but this started it all off.
10 years ago I picked up a copy of The Modern Dance (Blank) only to find a record with the ...Make A Record label on it. Got all excited (I'd been looking for Commandos vinyl) until I realized the Pere Ubu record had just been mislabeled.

I saw them play at the LynLake festival sometime in the nineties. They sounded great. Still had the energy from the live record. I always thought that the first Replacements record owes more than a little bit to them....

Was it this Blank label or some other that had some wierd relation to Mr Ott from Whiteboy? Like his printing company printed the sleeves on leftover stock from printing National Geographic? Hell, I am just reaching into fried brain cell territory here. I think these guys played Denver with the Frantix (just to draw that name into this)

Mr. Ott, future kiddie porn convict, had a connection with Hearthen, Pere Ubu's label. I think he printed some sleeves for Pere Ubu so they released a White Boy single or something along those lines.
Despite Mr. Ott's seedy criminal history, all four White Boy 7" records are pretty damn great. The sole 12" they released was pretty bad, from what I can remember. And their track on the "30 Seconds Over DC" compilation *kills*.
BTW, the live Suicide Commandos album was reissued on CD with a ton of bonus tracks a few years ago and is still available from www.garagedor.com for $12.

There is a brief discussion of the White Boy/Pere Ubu connection in Mark Anderson and Mark Jenkin's Dance of Days. According to them, Mr. Ott had contacted David Thomas through looking him up in the phone book, and got advice on releasing a record. If I remember correctly, they had nothing to do with actually releasing the record. It was self-released. They put out something through Limp records though...
