The December '77 version of 'Failures' is one of the most powerful, driving electric recordings ever. Gripping stuff.

Excellent post! The early Warsaw stuff is amazing. I like some of their later stuff too.

Too funny, I was toying with the idea of a Joy Division post but did the Die Kreuzen one instead. The Warsaw album is excellent, I wish it had actually been released properly. Some of the songs made it onto their box set I believe. Great band even when they did 15 minute live versions.

Can't beat a bit of Joy Division. The one track that does not seem to have been officially collected anywhere is 'at a later date' from the 'live at the electric circus' ep. I'd love to hear that again, if you know where it might be found.

An addition to the Joy Division covers is 16 Horsepower's rendition
of "Day of the Lords". Found on their live 'hoarse' album...pretty powerful.

I like some of the newer bands that take from Joy Division, like Interpol and The Editors. Thanks for the post as always.

On these early Warsaw recordings Ian's voice is more conventional and has a much more American sound to it. For the Joy Division recordings they slow things down with unique vocals, which lose the transatlantic lilt. I love both, all, everything! I remember going to school with a black armband the day I heard Ian Curtis had died.
