First I'd just like to say CIAA has a more instruments and a probably better band then Crestview so it would help open up band to a wider range of students if they do that.

One thing they could do is force students to take tutoring if they don't make par with the exams. Academic Detention, it should be enforced if it isn't. If it is "for students with disabilities" I don't see why cutting band would help aside from funding. Finding a solution for helping the students with disabilities is a hard task.

Gravatar Well, I would have administrators come in at random times to see if the teachers are doing what they are supposed to be doing. To see if they are preparing the students correctly. And then I would gather up some practice tests amd have them take some of those. But taking away band is a little harsh. And they would have no high school band after a while, because the students wouldn't know how to play. I feel that every child needs a positive outlet, and for some that is band. Take that away, they will rebel and still do crappy on tests.

Gravatar Well, this is a bit of a challenge but other people and I shpuld be able to knock it down. I personally would get rid of the band for a little while until i saw the the students made a much better improvement on their test's and if they did do better then I would put the band and choir back in the school. Feild's doesnt have the authority to just take the band and choir out he has to consult with the Board of Education and if they said to take it out then he could take it out. So if i was the princpal of that school I would stick to my plan and get rid of the band and the choir for a little while and eventually put it back in.

P.S. MUNFORD HAS THE BEST BAND IN ALL THE UNITED STATE'S SO WAHT I'M SAYING IS CRESVIEW AND OTHER SCHOOL'S DONT HAVE ANYTHING ON THE MUNFORD HIGH SCHOOL BAND.

Gravatar While schools have to take blueberries in every different way, shape, form or fashion, they do not have to do that with the employees that work with the berries(by the way, I really liked that story. I could totally see Ms. Vincent being that English teacher(no offense)). Those who work with the berries are as important if not more so than the bluberries themselves. Thus the school system needs to make sure their teachers are "triple-A". It takes a strong spirit and a soft heart to properly teach and educate a child in not just academics, but life itself.
As the article said, those in music tend to do exceptionally well in standerdized testing. Taking this away will only do harm. As food feeds our bodies, music and athletics fuel the soul, mind, and body. These cannot be achieved by academics alone. Don't get me wrong, academics are very important, but too much of anything(except the Holy Spirit) is a bad thing. Humans need balance to reach the equilibrium of life.
While there are those who learn, and I extremely dislike using this word, normally, many do not. People are a very diverse species, different people enjoy different foods, different people use different health care, people have different niches, the list goes on and on. In this same way, students learn in different ways(pooh, eyeore, tigger, and rabbit(I hate those stupid surveys)), different speeds, and different extensions. Some people have the attention span of a rodent, others can sit through a 13 hour speech and give any thing you want to know from it. Some people learn by watching someone else do something while others would rather try it themselves. In the same perspective, students need different styles of tests(with the same material only presented in a different way). Just as there are no two snowflakes alike, there are no two people exactly alike either.
Another option, of which I have been plaguing this blog of for quite some time, is to stand up against this dictator we call our government. Abolishment of these standerized tests. If more of today's teachers would do there job correctly, than we would not need them because those who shouldn't pass wouldn't. Yes this seems harsh, but so is my dandruff which has been acting up lately. Yes, there are things that every student should know, and I agree with that.
Taking music out of schools only strengthens the resolve that the United States of America is in fact becoming more and more communist and leading into totaltarianism.

Animal Farm and Brave New World

Gravatar Taking out band won't do the trick. Every educator should know the affects of music on the brain. As it was said, more practice tests should be given out.

Gravatar i dont think you should take out band cause that will not do anything. but they just need to give more practice test.

Gravatar I think that the teachers should be evaluated to make sure they are doing what they are suppose to, because all the blame cannot be sololy on the students.I also believe that more practice test should be given out, but in no way should they take music out of the schools.

Gravatar I believe that they should do tutoring extensively. I think that they should do tests every one to see if they are where should be. taking out band would not help.

Gravatar Students need to study more and the only way that is going to happen is if they are forced to study. One way they can do this is if students didn't pass the test are penalized as if they recieved a failing grade in a class. This would make them unelligable for any scool based extra curricular activities. Tests at the end of each week would decide wether or not they could resume regular activities again.

Gravatar I don't think they should take away band. what I think they should do is take enoughe minutes from each class to make an hour. Each week they should have a practice test. Then the ones that fail should us that hour they created to study. And the ones that passed nshould be rewarded with that hour has a kind of recess.

Gravatar I think that students should be thouruly teseted. But they should not ban band. After school activites are need to help the school get funding even though there band is not as great as ours. I think that taking out after school activities would prove to be unsuccesful. I really think it is a scare tactict.
