Gravatar RAISING THE STANDARDS is my biggest concern. Classes in the educational system have not been teaching us all that we need to know. The gateways are ridiculously easy. We are not thinking on our own. The government is creating robot children to serve whatever purpose they choose. (governmental conspiracy of totaltarianism...)
NOT PUTTING ALL OUR FOCUS ON THE ACT is another. Throughout high school and some of middle school, it's ACT this and ACT that. All we learn is science reasoning, reading, grammar, and mathmatics.
BRINGING BACK THE MUSIC PROGRAM TO ALL SCHOOLS is probably the most important one. Not every adolescents is the same. While some are smart, others are creative, or both. Such as in Crestview, they are getting rid their entire program in hopes to raise T-CAP scores. This infuriates me to no end. Music has been proven to work wonders on the human and animal psychie, both good and bad(depends on what music you listen too). Mozart has been proven again and again to improve both memory and skills of people. Classical music can also calm the nerves of people whenever there is tension. Now because of this, Covington High School will probably cease to have a marching/concert band. All the government is trying to do in this is make this children into beings that have no soul, no spirit, promoting that all people should play this sport or another because it will make you stronger when they send you out to the frontline.

Gravatar I want teachers to WANT to teach the class they are teaching not just be there to get money. If you don't like kids then don't teach! Also schools shouldn't allow people to teach if they are, well, bad teachers. You have to make sure they are good teachers! Come on people! It isn't hard to find a job that you like! Also I would like to see more learning of other cultures in schools. I don't mean learning what the person who is teaching the class thinks about a culture but truly about the culture. I don't want to hear about how you think they are "immoral" or "stupid" or etc. I just want to know the truth.

Ms. Vincent says:
It's a lot harder to find a job you like than you would think.
Some teachers are forced to teach certain classes by their administrations because of shortages; they certainly don't choose them.

Gravatar I think that we need higher standards. A lot of the classes we take are too easy. We don't seem to fit everything in either. I also believe that student should be able to take an exam that determines if they move on to the next grade level.

Ms. Vincent says:
Do you mean students should take a test to skip the 10th grade, or they should take a test to see if they should be held back?

Gravatar that would be so cool.

Gravatar Well i would like to say that this question sounds oddly familar.

I would still have students learn the required information Math Engish so on and so forth but will have classes i would make Physical education a REQUIRED class all four years or more of high school i would like for the teachers to be in a sense less "teachery" and actually care and no i dont mean care for the eight hours where there i mean teachers how are willing to go above and beyond for there students another iam all for athletics i mean i play sports all year but i would like to cut back on the athletics to make sure everyone is doing well in school i mean no one wants to be a millionare who is really just dumb i mean everyone should have something to fall back on corpral punishment should npe ever be allowed we are not your children do not hit us and we will not hit you i know there is no way of knowing this but i would love to be taught by an unbiased teacher i mean even you Miss Vincent said "when i first say calvin i noticed that he was very tall so i thought he was a basketball player" i am not some dumb jock i am so much more I would ban the selling of any treats soda's candies etc teachers as well will not be allowed to have these items i would not bann electronics as long you are responsible for your own things there should be no problem and lets face it things get stolen in the real world we COULD say that you are preparing us fpr the hard ships to come. i think that music should be a class optional for only one year no one wants to hear do re mi all day if you want music turn on the radio there will be no exit exams you should already know where i stand on that Reading will be a class of its own it should not be mixed with english students should read at least five or six challenging books a school year if you read more you will talk better I hat the way people sound when they talk and i hate when they read and the stumble over words (i do this as well)

If you have a few more hours to spare then lets continue but write now i am tired of typing

these are just some of my many veiws

Ms. Vincent says:

Would you require lessons in punctuation and capitalization?

I would.

Gravatar I would love it if we could do less testing and encourage more thinking in schools. If we could teach not just one side, but at least two sides of things. Such as teaching creationalism and evolution, but not saying someone has to choose. If we actually thought more instead of memorizing useless facts, maybe we wouldn't be in such a bad shape.

Ms. Vincent says:
I think some schools do this; at least, they teach more than one theory of creation (I can't speak to whether or not the teachers present them in a biased fashion).
This is an issue that many people take seriously. I think it wouldn't require an educational change as much as it would require a parental change in thinking.

Gravatar First of all, I would get rid of the No Child Left Behind that has plagued our schools with a "dumbed down" atmosphere. School is supposed to be challenging. Get over it. Next, I would make sure every teacher who was hired should make their own lesson plans and ciriculums. It should be their choice what they feel they should teach in thier classrooms. Lastly, I'd raise teacher salary. (Your welcome Ms. Vincent)

Ms. Vincent says:
Thank you.

I think schools were getting dumbed down long before NCLB was initiated. Compare this 8th grade exam from 1895 to the Gateways you have to take: http://thinklab.typepad.com/ thin...rade_exami.html

I am very lucky in that I do get to teach what I want to in my theater arts classes. It's one reason I don't complain about them.

Gravatar Get rid of the ACT and just have the end-of-year exams. Some students, including myself, are not brilliant test-takers. Let colleges focus on your grades.
No child left behind, the doing of a doofus. If the children do not apply themselves and put forth the effort, then the joke is on them.
Make PE mandatory for all four years. You may not know it but it will benefit students greatly. Not only will they not be fat, they will have more focus to put into their school work.

Gravatar I would, get rid of like all the very easy classes like foundations 1 and 2 because students in the U.S are just lazy and want to take these easy classes to get out of school faster but it doesn't work like that all the time. The kids in japan are really smart because all of their classes are not to easy like in elementry all the way through high school all the kids take very hard classes if we were to take these classes early on like they do are stanards would in fact either be the same or higer than the kids in Japn or any other forign country's

Gravatar I think that we need higher standards.Today's schools are making kids so dumb.We have the answers in the back of the books, and people can't seem to do simple math without a calculator. I also think that a nutrition class should be required for all students to take. This class will enable students to learn how to make good decisions about what they eat and the consequences of their actions.Because not only is America dumb but we are also the fatest country and we need to fix that in our schools.

Gravatar What I hink we need is more fun learning activtes and more thinking activites. Most of the work we do now we don't have to think. The answer is practicaly given to us. I also agree with leslie that we should have tests that either hold people back a grade or lets them skip a grade.

Gravatar I mean both Ms.Vincent.

Gravatar Ms V can you leave a comment about the blog i really want to know what you think

Ms. Vincent says:

Of what?

Gravatar I think we should have a smaller standard for those students that aren't goging on to college or high thinking jobs. Why cause them so much grief for them to turn around and graduate, and then not need the knowledge they just recieved. I know it may sound strange ,but some students don't need to be in some high school classes that are required right now to graduate. Besides most students when they get stuck in these classes, they just cheat off of the person next to them.

Gravatar One thing I would do is give more funding to teaching the advanced kids.

One other main thing I would do is make these hard classes and advanced teaching and everything else start early. I think they should teach foreign languages a lot earlier than it is offered right now. Students should be held to it, forced to take their foreign language until they know it by heart (from Middle School..Maybe Elementary School...To High School). There are students that don't want to come to school, why should the smarter students have to suffer for their lazy dumb attitudes?

I say they should stop focusing on people that don't want to amount to anything, and start focusing on the students who have the capabilities and the desire to be something extraordinary.

Gravatar I was using that as an example. My point was maybe we could encourage more thinking and not just memorize facts.

Gravatar I would make physical education required for all 4 years of high school. I would do this because of the so called "obesity epidemic." People in the government keep complaining about this "epidemic" so I would do this to shut them up.
