There are many things that I have learned this year. I learned a few things that I need to improve on when I give a speech.I have learned how to communicate better with classmates, that I probably would never talk to. Among other things I have learned something for future students is to do your work that is assigned. Also, don't show that you are not intrigued by an assignment or angered at one, it will only cause a negative atmosphere. And above all else be good for substitute teachers, or else face the rath of Ms. Vincent.
Ms. Vincent says:
Yeah, I hate it when kids are bad for a sub.
You've done a great job this year on your speeches. You showed an unexpected sense of humor, and I always love it when that happens!

I've learned that if you want to be a good debater you have to pratice and that also you miss vincent love mummy's for some odd reason. I've really had fun in this class doing the numerous activities and also can take the new things ive learned and use it the real world when I get out of school. I would tell students that are wanting to take this class not to get on the bad side of miss vincent or otherwise face the rath of her. However, if you do right and do your work and if you like mummies like miss vincent does you'll defintely be on her good side.
Ms. Vincent says:
This is the second post that mentions my "rath." (erm ... "WRATH," you guys)
I'm confused. I'm nothing if not completely in control of my emotions at all times.
You've shown growth in your speeches this year; each one is better than the last.

I have learned to overcome my fears with public speaking and now I don't have such a big problem with it. My advice is to be kind to the subs, and make eye contact in your speeches. I still have some issues with that particular thing. But I would advise them to make eye contact, site your sources, and use quotes in speeches.
Ms. Vincent says:
That's great advice!
I'm glad you feel more comfortable in front of crowds now; I hope you will continue to make speeches, because you're pretty good at it. Also, who will spread the gospel of Monty Python if you just quit????

Well i have learend many things this year. Mainly i have learend to write a kick but speeches. Your class has help me become more confident when i speak and that there is a difference from speaking louldly and passionatley. Because i want to be a teacher your class has help me learend to deal with many type of students good and the BAD!!!! Although my debate skills are not on a super level i do belive they have risen due to your class. Thanks Ms. Vincent "Vinnie" your class has left an undying impression on me and it will helo me in future years.
Ms. Vincent says:
"...there is a difference from speaking louldly and passionatley."
That's a very important distinction. I'm glad you learned the difference.
Thanks, Calvin, your words mean a lot (and I'm not being sarcastic).

I have learned how to become a confident speaker. Before taking this class I was so afraid to speak infront of anyone and now I feel like I could face any size crowd. My advice is to be nice to the subs and to cite your sources.DO NOT PLAGERIZE YOU WILL GET CAUGHT.
Ms. Vincent says:
You have a very nice presence when you're in front of an audience. I hope you will continue to give speeches.

Over the past year in this class, I have learned many things that I believe will help me in the future like how to give a kick a**-tacular speech and how to debate even though I'm not very good at it and that quoting Stewart (from "Mad TV") will not help you win a debate ("look what I can do"). I have also learned that it is NOT a good idea to get your teacher mad (unless you like being the victim of WRATH).
Miss Vincent says:
You have come a long way this year. I'm proud of you for turning yourself around this semester.
Stewart has his place, but maybe not in a debate.

I learned how to write diffrent speeches. My advice to the new students would be to listen to Ms. Vincent she knows what she is taalking about. Also that if you don't like to write don't take this class. One other thing is you have stage fright this class with help you get over it.I was never really afraid of speecking in front of audience but I was nerveous but thhis class helped me overcome that bit of nervousnes.
Ms. Vincent says:
Thanks for the vote of confidence, Ashley!
You really have improved a lot during this year

I have learned how to be more confident. I have also learned that i am not the only one who REALLY likes her personal space. I have always hated getting infront of people for the fear of making a fool out of myself, but hey, who doesn't mess up or goof up every now and then? This class has given me a major improvement with communication. I have made conversations with people, whether it be random or not. The knowledge I acquired about interviews in your class, I believe, helped me to have a smooth interview for officer in the FFA this year.
Advice for the newbies, 1. DO YOUR WORK (BY YOURSELF) 2. DON'T ACT STUPID 3.BEHAVE 4. MAKE GOOD EYE CONTACT. 5. DON'T PLAGERIZE. 6. DON'T PROCRASTINATE. 7.SAVE YOUR MOUTH FOR THE LECTERN. 8. DON'T TRY TO FINISH MS.VINCENT'S SENTENCES
Ms. Vincent says:
That's good advice. And I hate it when people get in my personal space.
I agree that it's important not to freak out about the possibility of messing up; sometimes that apprehension is more crippling than any other nerves a person might have.
You've done really well this year, Leslie--FFA has found a good speaker in you!

This year I've learned many things. One being most people can't spell online ("rath" :P). I've also learned how to write speeches AND speak in front of an audience. I also learned about Debating and not to plagiarize (Thankfully I didn't learn it the hard way...Is that spelled right? it looks wrong :/). If I were to give advice to future students I would tell them to audition for the play. I would also tell them not to plagiarize. They should also always bring their pens to class.
Ms. Vincent says:
You've really opened up this year, Corwyn. You took a big step in performing in the play, and I'm really proud of you!
(you spelled it right)

Well there is a great number of things I have learned in the lair of the Ms. Vincent. Speeches are not just sputting words out in front of an audience of unlucky listeners, it's an artform. Variations in words, tone, volume, and gestures create this. The words must flow from the tongue and soar to the ears of your audience with both grace and poise. I also discovered that the name Gregory in latin is Gregorius. Each of these two names has two differnent meanings. Another aspect to this class is learning about media and the many different ways of going about it. I have also aqcuired other things besides knowledge. I have made some new friends that I hope to keep until we leave and I have grown closer to friends I have already had. Learning also that voicing your opinion is very important. I have also gotten to know the other side of Ms. Vincent, the good and the bad.
For advice to those young fledglings, DO NOT TICK OFF MS. VINCENT. It will give you, your class, and Ms. Vincent an easier life. Do your speeches to the best of your abillities, no one wants to sit through that. If you get the chance, demote the usage and keepage of mummies . That will be fun. Well, I look forward to the drama of next year in Theatre arts 2( the theatre, not people drama) with Ms. Vincent as both my teacher and my friend.
Ms. Vincent says:
You give some good advice ... mostly. I like the part about "no one wants to sit through that;" it sounds very familiar
You've given some insightful speeches this year, Greg. I look forward to next year, when I won't have to do anything for Drama Society ... I mean, you'll get to spread your wings as a leader.

I learned about writing speeches and making them interesting is just as improtant. I have also learned that not everyone likes to do their part when working together and this will prepare me for future assignmentswhen we have to have partners. Of course the giving speeches part was scary, but evntually, as I remembered that you said to speak about something we're passionate about, I got relaxed. If I could give advice to others considering this class, it would be not to write just anything in speeches, like I did for time. And be prepared to write a lot.
...see? I said "a lot".
Ms. Vincent says:
... and I appreciate that.
You've learned some very important lessons--these are things that some people don't learn until they're in "the real world."
I'm glad you found the secret for fearless speaking--I hope this will help you when you have to give speeches in the future!
