At the time of Christ, Jewish scholars were debating a theory that great prophets either die on their birthday or the anniversary of their conception. Since those in the early Church believed that to celebrate Jesus' birth and death at the same time would be confusing, they took the date of his death (known because of the link to Passover) as the anniversary of his conception. Our December 25 would have been the normal date of birth under that scenario. The primary focus, of course, remained on the Crucifixion and Resurrection, but the day chosen was not entirely random. And certainly not meant to compete with other celebrations. When modern scholars and academics say crap like "Spring would have been a more likely time" ask them if December births were entirely unknown at the time. They will say "of course not, but that was not the norm. " To which you should reply, so why are you opening your yap? What exactly are you hoping to accomplish?

"I'd been listening to them for about a year before that"
Bleach is a great album. 'About a Girl' will always be my favorite Nirvana song.
