I think that you should start a campaign on this and contact every Filipino blogger you know or do not know, and influence google so that it points in a more decent direction... its worth a shot and a noble web effort.

As Marc said, we have a loooooong way to go to bump off all of the mail order bride sites at least from the first page.
It's nice knowing that with some (a lot of) effort, we'll be able to do something about it.

The first thing that came into mind when I saw the "Filipina" post on Clair's blog was my *bloody* paper in literature. My prof told me to use Filipino woman instead.
Anyway, did you check out the images on 'Filipina' too? They're even worse and more disgusting. I am a Filipina and I can't even see myself anytime in the future like what google perceives me to be.

My sister-in-law is a Filipina, but my brother did not order her through a mail order catalog. They met at work, fell in love, and got married. So, tossed a bomb to google on your behalf. Good luck!

rickey: thanks for the help! if your post on your blog gets half as many comments as the AI posts, maybe the word will spread beyond philippine shores.
ergoe: it's a long way yet, but a journey of a thousand miles can start with one link =)
drakulita: google's results are only a reflection of reality. and the reality is that those looking for filipinas as wives or sex partners are practically the only ones using the word "filipina" online. with this effort, maybe we can change the world... or, at least, search engine results =)
beth: thanks for the bomb! and tell your sister-in-law, too =)

Me again.
Care to put up a Wikipedia entry for 'Filipina'? It's currently being redirected to Filipino.

I call for a similar campaign for the phrase "Filipina cosplay". It's been singled out as a target by pr0n blackhats.

Hello Filipina Lovers
While I applaud your efforts to up lift the internet image of Filipina I have to object to the direction your cause is now taking. I operate a website called FilipinaWedding.com. My wife’s family back in the Philippines is attempting to sell advertising space on that website.
We have worked pretty hard to write favorably about the Philippines, Filipinas, and the whole image YOU yourselves are trying so desperately to protect. But now we have numerous people who copy the content of our website and publish it as their own work triggering a Google Duplicate content filter that would diminish all of our hard work promoting this site AND the image of Filipinas world wide.
Go there, read the articles, and if you have any objections to the content write me and I’ll correct it. But please don’t create phony websites dedicated to destroying the Google rankings of my site Filipinawedding.com
Currently my bother in law in Cebu is out of work and is trying to sell advertising on that site to little Mom and Pop sized Wedding shops in the area. Not at the prices you see on your own Philippine Newspaper Websites that are completely out of reach for the average Filipino. But at prices they can afford and benefit from.
So while I think it is admirable in your quest to uplift the Filipina internet image. PLEASE practice the quality I so much admire in people from the Philippines, and practice a little Delikadesa in your approach
Thank You
Joseph

This is great!
I'm currently in Library school doing an independent study on Search Engine Optimization. I'm working with the GABNet site and I will definitly take your reccommendations. How are Filipinas going to be able to find the empowering community of women thats out here in cyberspace with all this junk everywhere. Looking at Search is definitly the way.
Thanks!

I've searched Google using the keyword 'Filipina'. And I don't think the results justify the essence of a Filipina. It is just not appropriate for us, women of grace and power, to be associated with nudity, mail-ordered brides, and prostitution. It should serve as a warning of the degradating dignity and respect of other nations to Filipinas, and to the Philippines as well.
This does not go out only to the Filipinas but to all women. You can lose and earn money. Dignity and respect is much, much harder to have.

May I comment on the comment of Joseph?
As far as I know, the campaign to change the image of the Filipina online has not called for the creation of false sites nor the copying of others' content. Rather,it is a call to bloggers to write on who and what a Filipina truly is and how the term "sexy Filipina" need not refer to a porn star or a porn-star-wannabe.
Those who do as you have described are definitely not following the spirit of the campaign. They may be competitors out to destroy you. I hope they cease doing so.
