Bummer, I thought you were talking about the other kind. hahaha

I have several opinions, too. First, libraries are suffering from being stuck with the old definition. Kung baga, typecasted na. Second, while we are a highly literate society, the proportion between readers and non-readers is far apart. MAs lamang ang non-readers. Why not? We are too pre-occupied with making a living. mas basic ang existence so food first before books. And, from among the readers, mas lamang ang mga nagbabasa ng escapist literature which brings me to my last point. Books are being swallowed by tv and the movies. Anyway, escapist naman ang gusto natin, e di manood na lang. Sights and sounds pa. Pathetic as it may sound, talagang ganon.

tito rolly: there's still hope. otherwise, i wouldn't have bothered setting up this blog at all. the situation is pathetic, of course, but i'm not aiming to change the world all at once. if i can just convince a few librarians and library users to start thinking of their libraries differently, then i will have accomplished something. i can only hope i will live to see the tipping point =)

library marketing is such a big issue here because it impacts on actual library use. no mtter how hard we sell the library even if there was something sexy in it (I tried wearing shorts to work on saturdays before ) but if the teachers do not make research part of their course, the library will remain to be just a place.

i think i'll blog about this. this is a good one von.

Just got to have faith-- a good book will keep the readers buying/ and reading; and probably, teachers have to encourage students to read books that can only be found in libraries (the really old ones; or expensive ones). Siguro kung may calendar din nga si librarian
