Filipino Librarian

Despite our economic troubles, there should be a way to improve the academic community especially libraries to meet global standards.

I saw in channel news asia a feature on a library in singapore that can be found in a mall! according to the director, the quiet libraries of old are still good but he sees the emergence of a more techno-savy, upbeat, "noisy" library that will attract more people to visit.

Gravatar you're absolutely right. i'm not really in a position to effect change, but if i can affect a few hearts and minds with this blog, then maybe i will have done my part.

Gravatar I feel like an alien peeking into this blog since I am not a Philipino ...
I found your comment on Library 2.0 very interesting. There is nothing more sobering than trying to put flesh on our ideas. I am in the middle of writing a paper on the whole concept, etc. of Library 2.0 and so far most of the voices seem to come from North America or England, mostly excited about the whole thing.
You bring things down to essentials - who is going to benefit from this new trend and where?
I have my own reservations towards this new movement, partially because I view libraries as oasis of silence so conducive to deep reflection and focus. With so much information coming at me I rather feel anxious and overwhelmed - is all that needed and relevant to me? Is anyone able to produce anything of consequence in aa rush and under a heavy pressure of all thes tons of information. Just like in a giant factory sale - one wants to run away.
