Filipino Librarian

Gravatar I would like to say something, but like you, I am not sure what. It does seem that stereotypes are alive and well no matter the part of the world. I am a bit amazed (or not?) she was so calm about the mess, or maybe that is part of the stereotype? Either that, or the pill just really mellows her out.

Best, and keep on blogging.

Gravatar hmm i remember our gradeschool librarian she has this long curly hair and a beautiful smile. her hair wasnt tied up in a bun.

then sa highschool, yung librarian namin medyo matanda na. She has a short hair and was wearing this thick glasses.

sa college naman, lalaki yung librarian.

Gravatar we still have this type of librarian (hair in a bun with matching glasses).

but i don't care if we still have them. outside appearance shouldn't be the criteria to be called a stereotype librarian. it should be how she/he is as a librarian. i concluded that she's a stereotype librarian when she said "pulutin mo yan" ..instead of helping the user in putting back the books with a smile
maybe i'm not one of the stereotypes yet..for even if i wear my hair in a bun with thick glasses my reaction would be different for I may laugh my ass off(pardon my word) ..hehehe , and help him still

Gravatar Gosh! I really looked like a manang here. Exact opposite of my true self. That only proves my versatility in acting. What can you say? ('_')

Gravatar Tylenol ER is more effective for headaches.

Gravatar Hello everyone.

I am Carla, and i am a librarian from Cebu. I regulary receive and read the discussions of different topics here, however, i remained silent and invisible. But definitely not this time. Whoa! this is getting exciting and i can't stop myself from sharing to you guys my piece.

I was with fellow librarians when i first viewed the ad. And true enough, it generated different reactions from all of us.

I agree to N G Agustero. It is a challenge to all of us to improve the image of the librarians. And we can start it in our own little ways. I believe that how we look to our clients affects to our image. If the librarian looks stressed out, faded, and exhausted in the workplace, naturally, that is how the clients would identify librarians. Sabi nga nila, "First impression lasts", kaya, nasa packaging lang 'yan. Why won't we start working on our packaging. Let us start by smiling to our clients. Let us look approachable to them. Maybe, by having a good relationship with our clients (but not jeopardizing our policy), like assisting or even providing them the information in their research needs is a good start of showing them that librarians do not merely stamp books. Librarians are information specialists full of talents and skills. Let us show to our clients and most of all to the society that we use now the online tools in researching, we build databases, develop websites, we post blogs, and we join discussion groups

And maybe after this, after showing to them what librarians are made of, the next time they would portray us in tv ads, we would be stamping computers! Just kidding guys. Let's loosen up. It's just a caricature. Let's show them our sense of humor.

Thank you for your time. I hope we can have another juicy topic to discuss with.Regards to all Filipino librarians, from Cebuano librarians.
