Gravatar is it not sad that the Philippine government and the private sector can shell out money for huge malls and nothing for public libraries (and museums)?

Gravatar hi von. please post. thanks!

The Dermatology Institute Foundation of the Philippines Library currently needs a Librarian. The DIFP library is a small research library under VBP Group of Companies. Gravatar May I have your insights regarding this issue:

Are in favor of getting rid of the reference desk in the library, instead, replace it with an ONLINE REFERNCE Service?

Gravatar jerry and sai, for as long as the physical library exists, i don't think it will be possible to replace it with online reference. one, not everyone has a computer, and two, if a user is in the library, it doesn't make sense to ask him/her to go to a computer so s/he can get an answer from someone who's also in the library.

Gravatar Put bluntly, libraries not having public funding sucks. But it's a reality that must be dealt with pretty much every where, even here in Toronto, Canada where Full Time Librarian positions are not being turned into part time positions in order to save money.

Even in the early stages of the United States and Canada's nationhood, it was lucky enough to have Andrew Carnegie who built over a thousand libraries. Needless to say, his generosity has had a lasting effect on public libraries here.

Maybe the Ayala's and the owner of SM can shell out from some of the huge stacks they have to build and fund these great institutions.

Gravatar It is totally sad that so much money is alloted for other causes and yet for nourishment for the mind, not much is given. They really should allot enough money to make sure that people who cannot books can get good books that would allow their vocabulary to expand
