Ok, I'm confused about the whole handshaking/kissing thing and am glad I don't have to decipher it!
Too funny - I've been sitting in front of my window fans for months now and still no cold. 
My first introduction to the cheek or air near the cheek kissing was when I went to Greece and Cyprus a little over a year ago. I really felt like my space was being invaded at first and I had to resist the urge to pull away, but I finally adjusted just before I had to leave. In the places I visited the kissing on each cheek was almost always associated with arrival and departure of anyone in your group, well-known or not. There was no handshaking.
