Yikes!!! Um, would swabbing it with alcohol work? Wiping it down with a damp (water) cloth???
I was going to suggest rubbing alcohol too. Steve normally wipes down the suitcase handles with it before he goes through security. Apparently some hand lotions can also give false alarms. Good luck!!
Whatever you use, make sure it DOESN'T have any nitrogen, ammonium or nitrate compounds in it. Those are what set off those airport detectors as they are so commonly found in explosives.
