Hello. I saw your comment on my blog and was surprised that anyone even read it (aside from a few friends). I do agree that your BROKEBACK VALLEY would make much more money than the original. But it should be called BROKEBACK MOUNTAINS (for the boobs). Also, did you read THE SHIPPING NEWS or were you referring to the movie sucking? Or both? Thanks for visiting even though you almost sounded like you totally dogged my entry.

The Shipping News sucks. The book, not the movie.
I had it recommended to me by a fellow traveler when I was bumming around Central America. He thought it was one of the greatest books he'd ever read. It had one of those gold medals on the cover, like a "Bumberry Award for best fiction book of 1992 written by a female Canadian horseshoe champion." I read it and was bored to tears. Nothing happens. It's about some awkward doofus living in a frozen wasteland.
Come to think of it, the same guy recommended Gary Jennings' Aztec as one of the greatest books he'd ever read. Jennings writes fiction set in historical circumstances, like The Journeyer about Marco Polo or Aztec about Aztecs (the people, not the Edsel SUVs). The book was moderately entertaining, but hardly literature. And Jennings is obsessed with bizarre sex perversions. Both Marco Polo and the Aztec run around having kinky sex with relatives, animals, inanimate objects, and generally anything in sight.

I do agree that THE SHIPPING NEWS doesn't move very quickly. So I can see how it can be boring. Anyhow, which books DO you enjoy then? Or are you cynical about every book and stick to MAD magazines? Btw, your Marco Polo & Aztec factoid is gross. The visual reminds me of the Amsterdam Sex Museum.

Varones enjoys such heart-rending tales as Graham and Dodd's "Security Analysis" and Robert Cooper's dazzling "Corporate Treasury and Cash Management." I bet you'll also get a vote for John Kennedy Toole, though.
GoGo, can you list your blog here?

Sure, there is my blog. Feel free to tear it up as Varones did. That is a pretty captivating list of favorite reads. The great thing about those is they make for good toilet seat protective coverings afterward. (I was going to say toilet paper, but then retracted my statement at the thought of rough ink-ridden pages scraping against my privates.)

OZ: Ah yes, I do have a sense of humor, but my blog is mainly for writing exercises (i.e. forcing myself to write...i.e. writing prison). I will reserve my intelligent sardonic banter for my comments here. Speaking of which, UPDATE ALREADY. You don't want to lose the audience's interest do you? I'm tired of reading about WCV's lesbian movie plots.
