You know, I think what the real problem is that Lawyers and their minions gravitate to government service.
That's why we get 300 pages added in the dead of night to the cap and trade bill. Only a lawyer would pull that crap.
I see no change in the future, so long as we can watch Oprah and eat cheesedoodles and beer.

Oh you have no idea what is going on here in NY. It's a mess! There was a coup a few weeks ago. The Democrats had the majority, something that hasn't happened in the Senate in NY in many, many moons.
A few weeks ago a local billionare man got a few democrats (including Espansa) to shift side over to the Republicans in order to change the majority of the senate. Apparently the coup had been in the works for months. Now the Republicans are saying they are the majority and put Espansa as the President of the Senate (his reward for helping in the coup), the democrats are saying that it was all done illegally and that they are still the majority.
The courts haven't made a decision yet because a series of loopholes in the law ends up meaning that technically both of them are right. Now nothing has been done. Yesterday was the first time they got any work done and it was because when the Dems left the Republicans fiannly had gathered enough people to form a quorum. But now the assembly says there not sure what to do with the bills because they aren't sure if they are legitamite and Petterson is refusing to sign them anyway. Patterson is forcing them all to work the holidays, weekends, crazy hours trying to get them to finally give up the squabble and start working. And, now the state comptroller is threatening to take their pay away.
long story short. Repblicans were angry that they lost their power, got togehter with a rich guy, roped in a few Dems who are under investigation and in shaky condition anyway and overthrew the democraticly elected majority. Now all are acting like children, nothing is getting done and as usual New Yorkers are loosing money hand over fist.

Wow JenO. I had heard about the threat to withold their pay, but not the rest. Still, the word "coup" doesn't quite apply here. We elect PEOPLE, not PARTIES when we vote. Representatives are FREE to change their affiliation at any time. See this link for a list of party-changers that must include over 100 incidents. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/
Par...ed_States#2000s
I agree, it seems really slimy how they did it, but what would disturb me most is the PAYOFF aspect of it, NOT that they changed parties. However, I DO think it's awful for someone elected as a member of one party to change once he's in office. But then, sometimes the PARTIES change THEMSELVES! Look at the Dem party today! It's NOTHING like it was in the 60's, or even the 90's! I mean, JFK was for LOW taxes, LIMITED gvt, STRONG Defense, and abolishing the Federal Reserve! Today, he'd be considered as "Right Wing" as RON PAUL, for God's Sake! The Democrat Party has recently gone into hyper-liberal mode! Our president is a former memeber of not one, but TWO bona-fide SOCIALIST parties, the "Democratic Socialists of America" and the Marxist party called "The New Party". So, The positions and philosophies of A LOT of "moderate Democrats" of the 90's would fit better in the Republican party today, as BOTH parties have tilted significantly to the left since then. Such a person would be now a "moderate Republican". Reagan used to be a Democrat! As he said, "I didn't leave the Democrat party, it left me." Plus, politicians swith so they can WIN. After seeing how damagin liberal policies are to their state, New Yorkers are maybe starting to show signs of shifting to the RIGHT. For instance, Word is Patterson has NO chance of winning a full term, and people want Rudy G. as gov. Maybe these slimeballs who switched are just reading the tea-leaves and want to have a CHANCE of getting re-eleceted, and know they might NOT have a chance if they stay associated with the idiotic liberal policies the Dem party has been pushing for decades to the detriment of EACH of our biggest cities and most populous states (NY, CA, IL).
Let me ask this, how did you feel when Jim Webb, the Republican Senator from Virginia, switched TO the Democrat Party just AFTER he was re-elected in 2006? THAT switch alone gave the US SENATE MAJORITY to...the DEMS! The media praised him for his "courage" (see Salon.com for insance). Were you calling THAT switch a "coup" when it happened?

Here in NY they aren't changing parties though. They are still saying they are dems but are now saying things are too heated for them to vote on any issues. Apparently the whole thing happened because Golisano (the billonaire who is behind all of this) got pissed off when Smith (Dem leader) had a meeting with him and spent the whole time on his blackberry. Galisano didn't like being ignored. Some think that Galisano may be forking over money to the dems who flipped because they all have legal problems but noone really knows at this point what their motivation is. I'm sure it's not good though.
As far as the word coup...that just what it's being called. I guess a parlimentary style coup rather than a third world country style. I'm in the Albany area with lots of family who work for the state so I guess the whole coup, coup, coup that is floating around in the air non-stop around here has stuck in my brain.
The problem here really isn't left or right. Heck most of the state is right, it's NYC and Long Island that sway everything to the left. The senate has been Republican for decades, the assembly has been ruled by the Dems. Our govenors go back and forth. Neither of them are any different. They are all a bunch of crooks.

Really well stated Sic boy.
JFK was a terror to the machine and the machine took care of him because of it. I'd imagine that Ron Paul would have ended up in the same fate.
But speaking of coups, IA has been preaching this forever, there has been a coup in this country. It's non-violent but definitely the control of the country is no longer with the 3 branches of government. It's with the Fed and Goldman Sachs.
