Speak to me

Gravatar Funny you should mention that 9-0... Just a few years ago I found a folder my folks had carefully kept when I was born - soppy cards, dated souvenirs, etc, but also haphazardly-typed diaries by my dad, but mostly my mum... One entry which did catch my eye was her desperate description of me failing to stop crying all afternoon and evening-long... until she turned on the telly and it was Match of the Day.
At which point I instantly shut up.
Which my football-weary mum found amusing, as well as relieving.
Then she realised it was even funnier, as I was placated by dad's team Bristol Rovers losing 9-0. Ho ho ho...
Of course. reading this as a full grown grown-up got me clickety-clicking, and I realised the match which had baby-me gurgling with pleasure wasn't just Rovers taking a tonking, but Spurs taking the piss...
Destiny, innit...
Though Colin Lee's four-goal debut did prove somethjing of a false dawn itself...

And - somewhat depressingly - I remember it well. Colin Lee may have been somewhat transient in footballing terms , but he had a mullett to die for.

Gravatar That's the work of a truly loving father, that season-ticket touch...

My dad and his dad had a strange arrangement. My granddad supported Bristol City, so my dad decided to follow Bristol Rovers, so they could go to a match together every weekend...

Yes, it makes sense for yer football purist, and my dad actually, soppily, takes almost as much interest in City's scores as Rovers' these days (well, they are invariably in a higher division), I know I just couldn't do that if ever I bear a kid...

The babby'll have a Spurs rosette on attached to the hospital cot within minutes of emerging from the womb, with no possible chance of escape...

After all - if I've had to suffer it all life-long, why shouldn't s/he...?

Aidan, I think that was a brilliant strategy of your Dad's/Granddad's - the purest of purism. As for suffering... sigh... it becomes a way of life, doesn't it? (But do you remember when we beat Rovers 9-0?)

Gravatar I have seen your vulnerability and it is beautiful. Some sense of seriousness that interjects itself into your playing.

All the while the clock ticks woefully loud on this side of the Atlantic and I realize that another opportunity has fallen under the shadow of night.
I regret not returning sooner.

And the announcers voice sounds his warning
GALES IN VIKING FORTIES CROMARTY FORTH TYNE DOGGER HUMBER FAIR ISLE AND FAEROES

But here the waters are calm, the fleet has returned safely and all is well.
Do you hear me?
All is well.

All is well indeed...

Gravatar Hope you had a lovely weekend. I was down the Edgeware Rd today and I thought of you

Well, I was nowhere near the Edgware Road but I thought of you

Gravatar I love hearing you talk about O and S and the little things they do!

Have a wonderful dinner and I hope you enjoyed the sunshine - it's amazing how it can brighten up everything!

I'm glad you do, Cat... they're the centre of my universe

Gravatar Oh, God. Tottenham. Child abuse takes many forms.

What... from a Citeh supporter?

Gravatar I'm still trying to find something that we don't share (music/check, cars/check, food/check.....)!

Why do you live so far?

Okay... get yourself to J22 of the M25 and I'll talk you in by phone...

Gravatar Low tables, candlelight and cushions.
Now that sounds like an inspiring venue.

Did I say I am inspired?
I am.

So... are you inspired? (Errr... no need for an anwer, T. I've worked it out for myself.

Gravatar Everytime I think about eating Moroccan food I think about that movie Along Came Polly and then change my mind. haha!

I hope you have a great time at dinner.

Damn. I can't remember if I've seen that. I'll have to have a look see...

Gravatar I hope you are having a wonderful weekend, wdky. Enjoy it.

Gravatar I already know that wdky. I really do.

Thank you x

Gravatar heh, when I was in the classroom the amount of stories kids wrote about PS2 characters and the like amazed me. I'd tear my hair out trying to think of ways to inspire other thoughts and visions.

I do, sometimes... but they also like to get out and about, and to do stuff. They're wonderful children, Mez.
