I...I thought it was commendable that the Katrina survivors only had to be miserable for a few days before their government began to take care of them best it could. Food and water and shelter and money and charity of every kind....you wouldn't find that on most of the other continents, and in no prior era of history.

I know this a very late comment but I wanted you to know that this post was excellent.
About George Bush.....he hasn't done anything good for this country during and after 9/11 and the problem with democracy and your idea that we can change things if we want too is that it doesn't work!! You can't be in the government or really do anything unless your a rich bastard that grew up on daddy's rich paycheck and became apart of the "good ol' boys club". Our electoral system is fucked up in that our individual votes don't even count!! If 100,000 people voted for so and so in a state and 106,000 voted for the other so and so, than all of those other people's votes were for shit. Democracy in a sense could work but it never will. About New Orleans, did you ever think about people that coudn't afford to leave or just had no where to go and probably thought "it won't be that bad". Add on to the fact that there were miles and miles of traffic to go out of the city and people were even running out of gas on the side of the road. Yes, people were stupid for staying there but in their situation, I would complain too. It is pretty fucking sad when our government can't even organize a succesful rescue after a hurricane but yet we're in another country trying to establish some kind of false order...that will of course never happen. I agree with the last part you said about media and in general this country being full of idiots. I knew that when Bush was re-elected.
