Talk to me!

Gravatar Yep, it's pretty sad that the McCain campaign has not only not denounced the mob but has actively tried to fan the flames of violence and racism.

McCain was never a great man, but his legacy would've been OK, even to a liberal like me before this run for the presidency. Sadly, his legacy will be this sorry, horrible campaign that he is running.

Gravatar McCain has bolts?? Cool.

From away, it seems that this campaign has been incredibly divisive in a way Bush/Kerry never was.

Gravatar Too late yesterday with the renunciation of the crowd's impressions of Obama.

He did it on purpose. There is a subtle racism in most of his ads.

Although he himself may not have come up with this approach, he did indeed approve all those messages. And they have Lee Atwater's fingerprints all over them, from the grave.

Gravatar It's a shame. Let's hope we get through the next few weeks and can put all that hate behind us. Though I have serious doubts.

Gravatar I saw a clip from the campaign trail today on some channel (I know - can I be more vague? I just can't remember!), and some old lady was saying to McCain, "We can't trust him... he's an Arab", and as I gasped, he actually took the mic from her and said, "No.. no.. no... he's a good family man who I happen to disagree with on some important issues", and I was shocked. Shocked that the stupid old lady actually believed that (seriously, she was in dementia, I think), and shocked that he took the mic from her. But (at least in the clip) he did not say, "He's not an Arab!". It was bizarre.

Gravatar It is shit like this that makes me sad and fear for this country. It is shit like this that makes me want to stay in a diverse city like DC so my little one will learn tolerance and inclusion.

Gravatar What concerns me that now McCain is finally realizing his campaign -- particularly Palin and one of the chief strategists-- have fanned the flames os such a detrimental negative perspective of Obama that the McCain believers are asking the most idiotic questions because they are listening to rumor and innuendo.

Given that Sarah Palin was under investigation by a bi-partisan committee for unethical behavior/due influence in Alaska, she is equally so here on the campaign trail
McCain made a huge mistake in judgement and many Republicans in leadership are backing away from him

Gravatar I'm so glad to have read this as I have yet to see this written about so clearly. For weeks, if not months, I've heard and seen this as well. To say it's a great relief that Obama is ahead in the pools is an understatement. I would be worrying a lot more about our country if that weren't the case.

Gravatar Brandon- To his credit he tried to stop it (recently), but it shouldn't have existed to begin with.

Nat- It's been very ugly and one-sided.

Patty- I can't help but feel that he gave his campaign a blank check and now his ass can't cash it.

James- I hope so. For all of us.

Sybil Law- What was up with that woman's hair?

DC Urban Dad- It starts in the home!

Stevie- Even rats leave a sinking ship (I think, but it sounds good).

Kim- I'll stop worrying on Nov. 5th!

Gravatar we've got to get through a few more weeks, and then depending on the outcome deal with that too. hopefully, god fracking please, it'll be the one we need.

Gravatar FIGHT IT!!!
NOW!

Gravatar My big deep-in-the-gut fear is that Obama loses by a narrow margin after leading in the polls all this time.

Can you imagine the repercussions? Because the only reason he loses now is because of this bullshit McCain is allowing to spread.

If McCain wins we will see riots like we've never seen before.

Gravatar Jen- I really hope so.

Jeff- I'm trying!

Matthew- I fear you're right. I can't imagine McCain going peacefully into the office and it will be his own doing. Let's just hope the votes work.

Gravatar Just because he is suddenly being less overt about it, don't kid yourself that he is still stoking those flames.

There is already (a worthy) concern with poll numbers, because there is a certain percentage that says they can and will vote for Obama to the pollsters, because they don't want to appear racist, but behind the curtain of that voting booth, they will do differently. This sort of game can only add to this, because as polls focus more on race, more people will (to the pollsters) try to hide their racism.

Gravatar I usually don't leave comments on your blog, but I just wanted to say that I am glad you commented on this, it is just making me so angry, this is a time when the nation should be coming together not ripped apart. Is McCain, and especially Palin, trying to incite violence? Introducing Barack Obama as Barack Hussein Obama, please, you don't condone this behavior yet it has happened twice! Hussein is an extremely common name in other parts of the world, it does not mean he is related to Saddam. But the part that is angering me the most about this rhetoric is that, no Obama is not a Muslim or an Arab, but also "What if he was?" have Americans (some of them, the "Joe Six packs," of the country - that was so offensive by the way) become so ignorant as to believe that all Arabs and Muslims are terrorists, is this what 9/11 has reduced us to? The Muslim religion does not condone terrorism people! The terrorists of 9/11 are people who distort religious beliefs in order to serve their own ends, this is not the way that mainstream Muslims, or even Arabs (all of which are not Muslim) for that matter, believe.

Gravatar JayMonster- You're speaking of the Bradley Effect (for those that didn't know it had a name). I'm hoping that those that feel that way have already proclaimed their vote for McCain instead of lying. We shall see.

Heather- Thanks for commenting. Do it more often. I don't bite. Usually.

Gravatar have you been watching You tube video with the most ignorant awful mob of McCain supporters? The more of the craziness I see and hear the more certain I become of my vote for Obama.

Gravatar matthew, that is the fear in my gut too, that's why we need to donate $, make calls, talk to people who are undecided and organize! He needs to be 10 points ahead on election day.

Gravatar I keep hearing how Democrats are making Republicans look bad and I think, "What the fuck are you reading/watching?!" because this racist shit is scary. We have a lot of work to do.

Gravatar So true, so true.

I am not convinced McCain is evil either, just not on it enough to lead this country.

We've been fed fear by this country's government for eight years now.

ENOUGH!

Gravatar Fight fight fight

at least I know what my halloween costume will be...now where did I put my bolts?....

Gravatar Frightening stuff to read, lets hope the right result comes in at the end and yes, we follow your election very closely in the UK, it affects us nearly as much as it does you.

Fortunately here Her Majesty's opposition party are as clueless as a two week old Labrador puppy and about as scary too - George Osbourne the shadow chancellor has been described as being potentially as effective at running an national budget as an eight year old with a calculator.

Gravatar Whie I still wouldn't vote for him, my respect for John McCain would go through the roof if he would denounce these assholes. I'd love to see him show up at one of these rallies, the ones that keep showing up on youtube that devolve into hate rallies, and ask these people what the hell's the matter with them.

Gravatar Bridge- SNL just did a great update skit about the crazy people at the McCain rallies. They don't even have to exaggerate.

Sizzle- Kind of how Tina Fey makes Palin look bad.

Treemama- exactly

Apathetic Bliss- glad to help

Gary- at this point I'll take my chances with the kid

Holmes- They have more issues than Dr. McCain could fix.

Gravatar Regardless of the side of the ballot you're on, hate speech is always unacceptable and downright frightening. It's always easier to call names and run away.

It's about time for those of us who sit on the sane side of the fence to get out of our comfort zone and call these asshats out. Are you overhearing nasty comments between parents at a soccer pratice? How about at the grocery store? Pipe up and start asking questions. "Why do you say that?" You don't have to tell them they're wrong, just make them back up the trash talk.

It's sad that we're reverting to the playground childishness when what we really need to do is dig through the BS and get to the acts to make informed choices we can stand behind.

Gravatar I agree that the anti-obama bullshit from hardcore rednecks and fundies is getting waaaay out of hand.
