Talk to me!

Gravatar My wife was a vege for about 4 years, when we first got together. I was 'pretty much a vege' and it was interesting coming up with new ideas for food......fark! how many ways can you cook brocoli?

You're right though, meat substitutes are pretty average, so much so, it's almost worth not having them.

Tofu's great though....you just have to cook it in a really flavoursome sauce. They're like mushrooms, they suck up any flavour you cook them in.

I'm sure Lisa Simpson would be very proud of you.

Uhh, Mr. McClure? I have a crazy friend who says its wrong to eat meat. Is he crazy?

Troy: Nooo, just ignorant. You see your crazy friend never heard of "The Food Chain".Just ask this scientician.

Scientician: [Looking up from a microscope.] Uhhh...

Troy: He'll tell you that, in nature, one creature invariably eats another creature to survive.Don't kid yourself Jimmy. If a cow ever got the chance, he'd eat you and everyone you care about!

Jimmy: Wow, Mr. McClure. I was a grade A moron to ever question eating meat.

Troy: [Laughs.] Yes you were Jimmy, yes you were.

Gravatar We're trying out this service here in town that delivers fresh locally produced organic groceries to your door. It sounds hoity-toity, I know, but it seems to work out cheaper or at least comparable, all things considered. Our first shipment came today, and oh what a bounty it was. Two big containers full of fresh fruits and veggies, eggs, milk, and a bit of meat. And with all this food in front of us, what's the first thing we break into? Why the ground beef of course. Who are we to argue with burger night? Mayhaps tomorrow some of the veggies will meet their doom.

Good luck with the diet.

Gravatar You can't make friends with salad.

Gravatar And another thing about meat, it's expensive unless you buy the cheap stuff, and then what's the point? Don't like beans (or tofu or veggies for that matter) well enough to go vegan. When are they going to come up with those pills we are supposed to have 'in the future' to replace meals-yay no dishes! And where's my flying car while we're on the subject?

Gravatar Couple things:

a) the vegetarian corndogs are pretty good, if you must
b) If you think about it, you'll realize that beef is actually a plant.

That is all.

Gravatar Why not eat some chicken and turkey...have to keep those populations down. Turkey meatloaf and lasagna is just as good as the beef variety.

Gravatar We've been vegheads for years and we've struggled with the whole nutrition thing--are we getting enough of this or that? We found that the 30-minute recipes in Vegetarian Times are a great start. Also, you *need* Jeanne Lemlin's book, Simple Vegetarian Pleasures, in which most of the recipes take about 30-45 minutes. Her other books have more involved recipes, but none of it's hard. Making her recipes, you'll see how you can use tofu, tempeh, etc. so that they don't taste like styrofoam. Also, for protein, there's nothing better than eggs--so just make sure that you have one or two every day or two, and you should be set, so you don't even need all that fakin' crap. Of course, check with your docs, but all that they've ever asked is, "Do you eat dairy and eggs?" When we say "Yes." they tell us that we'll be fine and not to worry.
