Talk to me!

Gravatar Sounds like Atticus is already fully immersed into Kindergarten life. You should be proud of his confidence.

Gravatar I always have the same mixed feelings when Ronen runs off into school without waiving goodbye. Little fucker, who does he think he is??

Gravatar I think I know who will be the very last parent of the group standing at the gate!

Somewhat sadly my mum used to come to visit me at morning tea for about three months when I started school. She came to be known as 'that woman' in the end.

Gravatar "We saw him smile. We waved. He didn't see us. He never looked back in need of comfort. He never looked back to offer it. "

That hurt my heart. I HATE the days when carter cries for me to stay, to hold him. Then I HATE the days he runs in and forgets about me at the door. I think I hate the latter more.

Gravatar VegasDad- Oh, I'm proud, just not ready

RTK- exactly

Amelia- I plan on standing at the gate every single day

sam- how about some middle ground, kids?

Gravatar this Dad gig gets rough, hmm?

Gravatar This really made me cry. So very bittersweet, the litle man grows up and it is hard for the big man. I am very proud of Atticus and how well he adjusts, but I know how difficult it is to let go.I imagine I am known as "that mom"

Gravatar Don't worry big brother. He still knows you're there!

Gravatar So this is what I have to look forward to huh? I am a wuss, I am so screwed.

Gravatar Bittersweet.

Gravatar I fell you. I dropped my Daughter off for her fist day in 1st grade this morning and she said...
"Dad. I'm in first grade now. You don't have to walk me to the door anymore."
Ebb and flow is exactly right.
I didn't (she wouldn't let me) walk her to the door. But I did watch her all the way down the Sidewalk. she didn't llok back either.
I need to change my shirt.

Gravatar Sounds like you raised him right. To be confident and secure in his world. Good job Whit.

Gravatar ohhh sniffle.

The first time I took my daughter, the once clingy one, to pre-school, she had to be pulled away from the door, parallel to the ground, with tears and finger nails scraping the door jams. Little bitty hands clawed the air. It was terrible, but strangely satisfying that that passion was the extent of her love for me. I haunted the classroom windows, checking her emotional state. My heart was breaking.

She had a fabulous day.

The next day she left me with barely a peck on the cheek. Then my heart did break as one apron string snapped.

Kids are amazingly resilient while their parent's heart? Not so much.

Gravatar It seems like YESTERDAY my daughter was standing at the bottom of the driveway, waiting for the little yellow bus to pick her up for her first day of kindergarten.

I was freaking out because "What the hell do you mean I can't come on the bus? SHE's FIVE!"

She didn't care. I did.

Next week she starts JUNIOR high. With school dances and french kissing.

I blinked and missed everything, it seems.

Gravatar That's just not right! Kid could at least throw you a bone or something. Flash a peace sign, anything.

Gravatar Those first few days are tough. When you realize for the first time he doesnt need/want you by his side.

Gravatar Very nice story Whit. You really know how to capture an emotion.

Gravatar flutter- love ain't easy

princessnana- Still.

tt- he's got stuff on his mind

DC Urban Dad- believe it, baby

Jennifer- exactly

clll- ouch!

James- I can't take all of the credit, but I will, thanks

Scout's Honor- I kind of wanted him to at least pretend to cry

Redneck Mommy- Don't worry they don't start french kissing until fall.

Ed- I know, where's the love?

AAJoe- It's too bad, I could use a refresher course in kindergarten studies

Jeff- I used to capture bail jumpers, but that was hard on my knees

Gravatar UGH. right through my heart...

and beautiful, Whit. Painful, but beautiful.

I sweat a lot by 8am sometimes...but I think it's DT's.

And I shit my pants the first day of First grade...if you'd like to know.

Gravatar Kevin- Thank you and I would not.
