You know I hadn't look at it that way but you're right. Absolutely right. I remember a girl at our (Catholic) high school who got pregnant. It was a difficult thing, and left school (he did too.)

You even skipped over the easy part about how if they had more than "abstinance only" for a lesson that perhaps even if they did mistakenly "forget to wait until marriage" at least there wouldn't be a baby that has to pay the price for their actions.
No, they are lauded over for "doing the right thing" and getting married. Wait a minute... She is pregnant... that isn't doing the right thing. That is like wasting the resources to save people that didn't leave the island before Ike came along. The right thing to do, but only because of previous stupidity.
Funny how family matters are "off limits" unless they can find a way to exploit them.
Well said Phil. I also thought it was disgusting the way McCain was patting him on the back. But then he is the guy who met his current wife while having an affair with her... so this probably fits in his bag of values nicely as well.

I don't want to get into the political hypocrisy of the Republican Party on Whit's blog (yes I do, yes I do)...so I will just say that YOU should get the standing ovation, not that dude that knocked up Bristol!

Given that the Democratic part is often mis-labeled as the group of people who enjoy immoral behavior and who encourage the same amongst our young by talking about sex/AIDS and suggesting birth control so they'll be sure to go out there and screw their brains out BEFORE marriage, I find it very hypocritical that someone like James Dobson is now chalking the Bristol/Levi snafu as "just another family issue". Not if it was Obama's daughter getting knocked up. FOX NEWS would be burning it at both ends trying to cover ever aspect of our shame.
I feel sorry for these kids, because that's all they are. Kids. And Palin is using their humiliation to make a point and win votes. You're right, Whit. Their lives are OVER.

The worst part is that there are countless mindless people out there who will nod thier heads vigorously and agree. Which ever way it is spun, they drink it like the koolaid it is.
If we had it to do over again, we would NOT wait 18 months. We probably would've waited about 18 minutes.
I am kind of glad we didn't go crazy, because we might have ended up like the Palin kid.
As it was, we more than made up for that wasted 18 months, but we were wiser and more careful than we ever would've been. That's how we were able to enjoy eight awesome years together before DECIDING to have children.
We really got to know each other as a couple during those eight years. I'm sure that's helped us during these stressful child-raising years.
Alright, I'm back.
First off, their lives are not over. I believe my SIL who had my niece at that age would not agree in the least. She has a wonderful life and a wonderful child. I can't imagine life without her. It's terribly arrogant to suggest that your chosen (maybe forced) path in life is the best and only way to do things.
My parents were married, but not much older, when they had their first child. Should we complain about them not controlling their hormones? Why are they any different just because they had a piece of paper and a priest?
Why is it the boys fault for not controling his hormones? Best I can remember, at that age my hormones played a large part in my chosen activities. Those poor boys...
