I've seen people just put their blogroll in a post that they date back to like 1992, and then just put a link to that post in the sidebar. Easy, cheap, a bit hackey, but hey.

I have a blogroll on blogger at least that long and I don't think my page loads slow. Does it?

I've thought about moving mine to a post and dating it back too. But there was some reason I didn't like that idea. I don't remember what it is now.
