Talk to me!

Gravatar Man, I can relate Whit! I can't remember the last day I've had alone, but then again, I haven't asked for any alone time beyond my night owl blogging. I can imagine that it would be fun and productive to have a day to myself, but as you said, I would probably feel lost without multitasking and juggling 10 things. Sometimes I think I'm more productive when the pressure is on, but perhaps less creative. It's a toss up. Thanks for sharing this.

Gravatar Have I mentioned how much I love your writing? Yes, I think I have.

Gravatar What I wouldn't give for five or six uninterrupted hours to make a dent---and miss my kids.

Gravatar Yeah, I remember the last time I had about four hours to myself during the day. I didn't get anything done.

You should've just gone to the beach with them.

Oh, and one great thing about winter in the Northwest? No yardwork!

Gravatar I'd be hard pressed to imagine them not adoring you.

Gravatar You should have packed yourself in that car headed to the beach with your precious family. Life is too short! That said, now get the rake and move it.

Gravatar When should I be over with the strippers?

Gravatar I feel the same way. I want alone time so badly and it happens so infrequently, that when it does I am not quite sure what to do and feel all the time that I need to get something done or it would have been a waste.

Gravatar Jeremy- I wound up getting some stuff done, but it took a loooooong time

ByJane- You're too kind.

Ed- it's bittersweet

Phil- I enjoy working in the yard because I want to, not because I have to.

flutter- I like to think they're partial to me

princessnana- sometimes a dad has to do what a dad has to do

RTK- allow me to extend an open invitation

James- it's a lot of pressure to perform when you want nothing less

Gravatar beautiful.

Gravatar I'm in your shoes right now. Kidlet is gone for the week, mountains of household chores needing done, yard that always seems to need tending, and a splitting headache keeping me from doing anything other than parking my ass in front of the computer.

Gravatar Whit, RTK keep texting me and asking if I want to dance at your house? Are you having a party?

Gravatar Crys- thank you

Lisa- maybe the computer is causing the headache!

ImPerceptible- it's like a party

Gravatar Mow that lawn! Or don't.. whatever floats your boat, Hon!

Gravatar Agh. Being apart sucks. I'm about to be the one who leaves for a week for work, and it sucks, even though I'm going to one of my favorite places. Hang in there, and tell them to lie when they call and say that it's raining.

Gravatar Yeah, and you never get quite as much done when the family is out as you think you will. It kind of makes you wish you just went out with them and did the chores another day.
(BTW- I have a brand new computer and it still takes 5 minutes to load your site. What's up with that?)

Gravatar Another great piece.

I don't know how or if anyone ever finds that balance.

Gravatar Sizzle linked to this post in her Google Reader.

There's a strange sort of emptiness when the family goes without me. It's like a yearn for freedom on the one but can't seem to do anything with it except wish I was them when I have it.

Good luck with it all.

Gravatar DutchBitch- I didn't. Thanks for your support.

Papa Bradstein- I hear ya, although were we live a call about rain would be better than a day at the beach

Keith- I finally got some stuff done, but I'd rather have a sunburn. Hey, some things are worth waiting for.

Sizzle- Thanks. Got to keep trying!

Nat- Thanks. Looks like I owe Sizzle some money.

Gravatar Aww, that was sooooo sweet and you are still a manly man! My hubby hates it when I call home sweet (it's rare!) You are a great dad and hubby!

Gravatar Sheliza- would you please forward that to my wife?

Gravatar We live in completely opposite sides of the universe. I'm in an office 8-5, M-F and you're... well, you're not. But I'm guessing we both still desire time alone to do things just for ourselves.

Nice piece Whit.

Gravatar Jeff- Thanks, the best part about being home is that I NEVER get any time to myself, not 45 minutes in traffic or stepping into Starbucks for a quick cup of coffee.

Time by myself is so rare that I don't know what to do with it when it happens. I usually walk around bookstores and Circuit City for an hour and go back home.

Gravatar I've stayed home (where I do my paid "work") in an effort to get some "me" time. I am usually left feeling very, very guilty for not going where ever the kids and my husband are going...beach, zoo, etc.

It is the worst when I don't get any extra "paid" work done. That is when I have regretted not going....especially the "missing from photo" shots.

But when I have true shake-out-the-cobwebs me time, it's been a good thing for all.

Love your post.

Gravatar I think I sometimes waste even more time when I'm alone. I definitely would have wanted to be at the beach.

Gravatar Janet- exactly, thanks!

Darren- I'm not a big beach guy which made it a bit easier

Gravatar I love this piece. I hope you said hell with mowing and just enjoyed the day.

Gravatar whit, i am sorry (for you) to say... we are fast approaching man-crush stage. your posts rock!

well done as always. brilliant stuff.

Gravatar Pam- if you saw my lawn you'd have your answer- and you'd like it

PG- unlike most crushes, I'll give it up
