Sandra,

I keep trying to convince you that, from Romsey, it is easier to drive to Winchester in the first place than to Parkway. At least you are going the right way!

You and I both could use the Rail Bus from Romsey to Winchester but I never quite trust that I won't be stranded late at night. Knowing the car is in the car park is very reassuring. And we've always got to get to the bus stop in the first place.

But the government's transport policy does need to be more joined up. I suppose you have picked up that SouthWest Trains have banned cycles on more peak trains.

Lets see what the new December timetable does to us and the introduction of more Desiro's with fewer seats.

Hello Sandra,

I too had to travel by train to London on Thursday 7th October. After dealing with major traffic problems on the M27 I finally arrived at about 8am, but had to park in one of those 'dodgy' parking spaces you describe, which are not really spaces. On my return I received a warning ticket, though I was thankfully not clamped, but was late for my meeting as I missed the train I was aiming for.
There must be land on the other side of the road which could be purchased to provide more parking, though a footbridge would be required. Am I correct in thinking that the area I am referring to is University sports fields?? If so, then they are not over-utilised from what I have seen.
One way or another the car park is not big enough.

Regards

Paul Rispin

Paul - you are correct and the area of land you mention was at one time made temporarily available for commuters (and was always filled as far as I recall). I have written to Andrew Haines of South west trains about this. will keep you posted.

Hi Sandra,

If you can't find a space at Parkway there are usually plenty at the airport and the charges are similar. I use it routinely if leaving from P'way after about 07:30.

Yours,

Martin
