We as a country should be self sufficient in many food items but due to monsters like the Common Agricultural Policy and quotas, farmers have to throw away much of what they produce. Much food is imported unnecessarily because of our membership of the EU. Being from a farming family, my uncle had to get rid of his entire dairy herd because it was no longer economic. His milk delivery business that took so long to build up went too. The fact is that people in the countryside are fed up with the contempt should by Mr Blair and want an alternative. You will have to do a hell of a lot more to convince them that your party is that alternative.

Cut off the subsidies to the farmers, if they can't make a living themselves then: tough. Get a job like the rest of us and stop scrounging off our hard earned tax.

Farmers have jobs feeding the rest of us. What a totally pathetic statement from the last contributor. They obviously have never worked on a farm yet alone been to one.
