I hope you were raising money for charity. Can you tell us please?

Why does it have to be charity? What's it to you?

Democracy doesn't come for free, you know.

We don't raise money for charity as we don't usually cover costs but we do usually share the venue with a local organisation and give them an opportunity to share the venue and raise money in their own right.

Well, that answers the question then. You use Christmas for your own political ends. Don't you think that if you are fund-raising, you should do so on the basis that it is a private function. But no. You evem hand out liberal democrat balloons to the public at Christmas time. What next? You going to ask Santa to vote Lib Dem?

Come on Alf- we are not fund raising for ourselves - and what is the problem with giving people the opportunity to meet their political reps? The kids love the balloons so stop being such ascrooge!

Ha! You wouldn't be doing it if there wasn't a general election coming up. Any cheap way to get publicity. As for being a Scrooge, I've already spent more than my fair share this Christmas thank you very much. Of course the chilren love the balloons. Brainwash 'em when they're young.

Alf Baby
You are quite wrong about only doing this as there is an election coming up. This is something I have done every year since my election to parliament - it's called engaging with the public - something a lot of politicians seem reluctant to do. We are not all like Gordon Banks you know
