I feel the labour party has let us down over the house of lords reforms. The house lords should have been completely abolished. These tory ermine clad parasites should never again be allowed to interfere with the business of a democratatically elected government. Hopfully we will see the end of the hereditary peers in the next few months with a free vote in parliament to abolish the lot of the scavenging parasites over the next few years. Then the labour party should look at taking on the monarchy and free this country from this rabble of scoundrels.

Peter, you really have got a chip on your shoulder. The House of Lords isn't perfect but at least it serves as an independent body of indoviduals from many professional backgrounds. It helps to keep Parliament as a seperate institution although it has been steadily eroded and controlled from the Labour Party Machine. The Monarch in contrast has serveds the country well over the years and can serve as a mediator in times of a constitutional crisis. Labour has done a good job in wrecking the constitution and the freedoms that we have been given will be further eroded from ID cards. Maybe Peter should take up the role of Big Brother because he certainly acts like one.

I must admit that when I met Ms. Gidley whilst working on her campaign this March, she made a good case for the 80% elected 20% appointed system.

Why 20% appointed we should rid ourselves of the monarchist parasite once and for all.

No Peter, we should get rid of you!

Stick to the subject clive or we will get censored again. May the fleas of a thousand camels infest your tory armpits.

From his comments above, the Treason laws should be used to deal with Comrade Sowerby, not problem clerics.Don't know how he can bear to live in this Kingdom.
He chooses to ignore the fact that the Lords is packed with ermine-clad Labour luvvies who contribute nothing to debate whereas for centuries hereditary peers (of all political colours)have provided valuable checks and balances on governments.
I would far prefer an Upper House peopled with hereditary peers, who at least know how this country works (some of them own large chunks of it)than have the likes of failed MPs,TV presenters and other odds and ends who have been en-nobled as a result of political patronage.

The state and people own this country and lands tory boy.I would love to see Dennis Skinner in the lords he would scatter them like the bunch of howling scavenging dingoes they are. I think the spirit of oliver cromwell is in Blair and his ministers and they will rid this country of the lords and monarchy over the next few years.

I don't think the spirit of Cromwell is in Blair. Does anyone know if Ms. Gidley reads these comments?

Possibly, I think cromwell was an inspiration to us all and it is fitting his statue stands outside parliament I would fight for his cause right now. You should remember this is a blog site where people express their viewpoints which Ms Gidley may or may not agree with.

Peter, what we need is something that is going to restore the self-respect that this country has lost and to rid us all from the disgusting spin doctors that make up your pathetic party. A previous contributor is right by what he thought about you. You do have an IQ of a plastic bucket.

Re James' comments above,I should imagine that Mrs Gidley has long ago given up reading this stuff!

When I was working with her on her re-election (on election day :D) she told me that she likes to read the comments.

Oh, and I don't want to give the wrong impression about how well I know Ms Gidley, I was only down in Romsey for a day or so on May 5th. However, for winning against Nokes, she is my hero

Just to clarify - I read the comments but don't always feel moved to comment but it is useful to provide the forum.
It would be nice if people could be a tad nicer to each other because I really do not like to censor but for what it's worth - the reason I would like to retain 20% appointed is to retain balance (when I say balance I am not talking politics). One of the strengths of the House of Lords is the range and depth of expertise and there are certain sectors of society that are under-represented. However - any appointment system should be transparent and a justification made for any appointments.
